QuestQuest, (Sports Network) – Alex Rodriguez continues his quest to become the youngest player to 600 homers this afternoon, when the Yankees resume their four-game series with Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium.

On Saturday, Rodriguez is hoping history repeats itself, as they face the pitcher who served up his 500th home postulated nearly three years ago in Kyle Davies.

“For me, it’s another ball game. I want to follow the path I have been,” said Davies. “If he hits 600, so be it. As long as we win the game.”

Rodriguez should easily become the youngest player to reach the milestone. Babe Ruth hit his 600th at 36 years, while Rodriguez will not turn on 35-27 July.

Ruth may have reached the milestone faster, reaching in his No. 600 c / at-bat 6.921, but the pace of Rodriguez (8646-bats entering Saturday’s game) trailing only Barry Bonds (8212) and Willie Mays eclipses (9514) and Henry Aaron (10 009).

Davies, meanwhile, is seeking his first win since beating Boston again on 28 May. He has gone 0-3 in his last eight starts.

The last time the Georgia native was on the hill allowing three runs and 10 hits in seven innings against Toronto. Kansas City finally beat the Blue Jays in that race, 5-4, but Cruz did not factor in the decision.

This will be the beginning of the third race for Davies against the Yankees and even the veteran pitcher is 1-0 in his last two starts, still has a mediocre 5.59 ERA against the Yankees.

Last night, Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the first inning, the New York Yankees battered the Kansas City Royals, 7-1, in the second part of a four-game series. Brett Gardner added two hits and drove in two for the Yankees, who have won three in a row.

Rodriguez finished 2-for-4. Although Rodriguez did not homer, was a milestone, as Jorge Posada recorded the 1,000 th RBI of his career.

A.J. Burnett (8-8) pitched five scoreless innings before a long rain delay forced both teams to change pitchers. Chad Gaudin allowed one run in three innings of relief after the game resumed.

Brian Bannister Royals starter (7-9) allowed four runs and six hits and two walks in 4 2 / 3 innings and took the loss, the ninth of Kansas City in their last 11 games.

Bannister entered the game with an ERA of 7.15 in four starts against the Yankees, and continued to struggle in the first inning.

The Yankees turn for Sergio Mitre, who will be activated from the disabled list to start in place of the injured Andy Pettitte.

Mitre landed on the disabled list back on 05 June, when he hurt his oblique, but before the injury the right-hander pulled double duty for the Yankees, working as a reliever and starter. However, his last lap arrived on 16 May.

Mitre has thrown 11 1 / 3 innings before a home crowd this season and in that time has surrendered four runs and seven hits, walking four batters and struck out five.

Against the Royals in his career the California native has made only two appearances, but it was not good and in seven innings total against KC, the veteran pitcher has given up six runs and 13 hits.

Thursday’s victory improved the Yankees against the Royals 16-4 at home since the start of the 2006 season. New York has won 27 of the 36 meetings between clubs over that time period.
