Karachi ViolenceKarachi Violence, About six people were killed Saturday in the city, bringing the death toll to 19 in the latest outbreak of political violence, President Asif Ali Zardari, has formed a committee of four to start the dialogue between political parties. The committee will focus on continuing government policy of reconciliation with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Muslim League – Functional (PML-F) and the Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q).

The decision was taken during a meeting at Bilawal House and attended by Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Interior Minister Manzoor Wassan, ministers and other leaders of the PPP.

The committee includes four members Syed Khurshid Shah, Agha Siraj Durrani, Justice Minister Ayaz Soomro and MNA Sindh Qadir Patel.

The president also called for activation at the district peace committees, comprising local leaders and representatives of agencies of law enforcement.

PPP-MQM relations

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said the resignation of the governor of Sindh, the provincial ministers and federal MQM was not accepted and therefore as ministers still intact. Gilani said the public order situation in Karachi is a provincial issue and the federal government is in contact with the provincial government to improve the situation.

Gilani said: “We respect the mandate of the provincial government.”

MQM blames ministers

MQM coordination committee condemned the latest round of violence and said that criminal elements with the tacit support of “some ministers.”

“The free movement of armed terrorists in Landhi and Malir and the role of police as silent spectators forced the MQM to believe that everything was done under a scheme,” Raza Haroon said Saturday.
