Jordan Malone | USsPost.com:Jordan Malone’s Olympic debut certainly didn’t go as planned, well as much as you can plan anything in short-track speedskating.

The 25-year-old from Denton was disqualified from his opening heat of the 1,500 meters tonight after he was ruled to impede in his opening heat. Malone had cruised along at the back of the field before making his move on the inside with about four laps to go. That’s when the trouble started. Malone said he was ruled to impede/illegally bump into Japan’s Jumpei Yoshizawa, who went flying into the side of the rink. Malone finished the race in third and would’ve easily advanced to the semifinals had the incident not occurred.

Malone said as he was passing Italy’s Nicolas Bean, Bean took it to mean Malone was crowding his space and knocked him a bit in front of Yoshizawa.

“There was nothing I could do at that point,” Malone said. “I just had to sort of hold on to where I was. But we deal with that in every competition. We just hope that it doesn’t come at the Olympics, but it did… They just didn’t see what happened [before]. That’s how it is.

“Those are the cards I’ve been dealt,” Malone said. “I’ve got two more races to go. As far as disappointment? Yes? Defeat? No.

“There was that one little half-lap incident that knocked me out of the race. I put it behind me and know I have two more races and one is to really skate for the U.S., which is the team relay.

“It’s sort of a serene feelilng right now. What’s done is done. You go into the Olympic Games knowing you have to handle whatever it throws at you.”
