In 1988, however, had turned his attention to the direction of one of the first artists to do-the creation of 27 films for VCA Pictures and later about 100 for his own production company, Productions John Leslie, all of which were distributed by Evil Angel Productions.

When not engaged in the production of adult films, Leslie was a prolific painter and photographer, and a blues musician out after playing blues harmonica and has been vocalist for the band The Brooklyn Blues Busters. It was also well known in adult circles as a gourmet chef.

“John was one of the very, very, very few that I looked up with something to teach me,” said another actor-turned-director Paul Thomas, who worked for the first time in 1977 with Leslie’s Baby Face. “It was the best pornographer, the best ertc film director first things he did, the gonzo first he did in Evil Angel and films made by AVC, were just the best. And as an actor, I think it was we had better, adding intelligence and darkness of his work, was not only an artist in many ways, from painting your kitchen to your movie. ”

However, when it was suggested that Leslie was a “good guy,” Thomas bristles.

“He was too deep and too complicated to be a” good guy, “said Thomas.” He could have been a nice guy, but that’s selling it short. It could be anything but pleasant. Could be diverted, could be bad, he did what he had to do to get what he wanted. But he was much more than a good guy. It was an exceptional artist. ”

Actors who worked with Leslie “back in the day” certainly shares that view.

“Oh, my God, no!” “Said Randy Spears, the first time reported the death of Leslie.”John was my mentor. He is the guy I looked up before I got into this business. I said, I want to be John Leslie. Oh, man, that’s sad. God Rest his soul.”

All who knew him Miss Leslie intensity?

“I’ve been very, very sad,” said Thomas. “I was expecting to see John in Las Vegas.” [His death] makes it a staff of little more than an era has passed. We’ve all had the feeling that the business is definitely changing, and it is not possible, I think the most poignant statement I could make, I’ve been sitting here, being one of the few filmmakers in the business that still wants to tell a story and make a movie. I’ve been thinking, obviously, if my time has passed, and the death of John in some way seems to put a point at which, a time that has passed. ”

“He died at a young age, and so unexpected, an embarrassment,” said Hampshire. “John was just a great person in general. A great director, great actor, and a great person we loved him.”
