Jobs In Telemarketing

Jobs In Telemarketing, Ten companies have notified the state they have cut or plan to cut more than 1,303 employees in the coming months.

Some of the firms, including Decatur-based Archer Daniels Midland and StarTek USA, previously announced the job cuts as part of corporate downsizing efforts. Others, including Chicago-based Play boy, said they were paring jobs because they were either closing their operation or renovating facilities.

The layoffs were outlined in the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act report for February.

Not included in the report, however, was Gov. Pat Quinn’s plan to lay off as many as 2,700 state workers as part of his budget plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Although Quinn’s proposed layoffs were announced during his February budget speech, they don’t start taking effect for several months, meaning they don’t have to be included in the agency’s latest layoff report.

The governor’s layoffs also are subject to negotiation with the General Assembly. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union has launched a media blitz aimed at stopping the governor from closing 14 large state facilities.

“It is hypocritical for Pat Quinn to say his priority is creating jobs when his budget plan would wipe out nearly 3,000 good, middle-class jobs providing public services,” said AFSME spokesman Anders Lindall.

The 258 layoffs at StarTek, which is a telemarketing company, were blamed on reduced client needs. At ADM, the 207 layoffs at company headquarters are part of the companies global downsizing plan.

Other companies reporting layoffs include:

— Life insurer MetLife is planning to let 63 employees go from its Oak Brook offices.

— Renovations of the Niketown store in Chicago will mean the temporary layoffs of 160 employees.

— Haircare and personal products company Alberto-Culver announced 121 layoffs at its Chicago facility.
