Jeff Fisher News

Jeff Fisher News, The Miami Dolphins showed that Jeff Fisher was at or near the top of their wish list Tuesday by interviewing him just 48 hours after the end of the regular season. The Dolphins are looking to make a splash in their coaching search to replace Tony Sparano.

But is it possible that Fisher is overrated? Could he be a product of this year’s shallow coaching pool for experienced coaches?

With the intentions of Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden not fully known, Fisher is the biggest name available on the open market. He is considered a top-shelf candidate this offseason, one year after being fired by the Tennessee Titans.

But here are some interesting numbers to ponder with Fisher:

Fisher is 142-120 (.542) as a head coach. Twenty-two games above .500 in 16 years isn’t overly impressive. In addition, Fisher has only had six winning seasons and had 10 non-winning seasons with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.

Fisher’s playoff record is 5-6. Three of those wins came in his first postseason in 1999, which led to a Super Bowl appearance. Since then, Fisher is 2-4 in the postseason.

Fisher won his division just four times in 16 years. Winning the division is very important for Miami, which is trying to close ground with the New England Patriots and coach Bill Belichick in the AFC East.

Despite these numbers, Fisher gets my vote for Miami’s best choice. He fits many of the things the Dolphins need: experience, name value and a winning resume.

But Fisher is benefiting somewhat from a thin coaching crop — at least in terms of big names. Without Cowher or Gruden hovering over Fisher, that’s raised his profile even more to the top for jobs like Miami and the St. Louis Rams.

But that’s my take. I want to know what Dolphins fans and our AFC East community think. Is Fisher considered an “A-list” coach or is he overrated?
