Jason Wu Toronto, At 9 a.m., there were already 30 people in line. And there was still three hours to go before the pop-up shop selling the Jason Wu for Target collection would be open to the public.

David Page, 47, who works in finance, was first in line Thursday at 6:45 a.m. He was there to get his hands on a few items for his wife.

“She is a bit of a fashion girl. She loves Jason Wu and has some of his stuff,” he says of his spouse who was out of town this week. He wanted to buy her the items as a surprise.

Target Security, dressed in red puffy jackets, patrolled the line and kept a head count.

One shopper who had stepped away to get coffee was questioned when she returned to her spot. Apparently the strict control was due to the fact that the first 25 people in line would be allowed in the shop 10 minutes earlier.

Wu, a New York-based designer who rose to fame when U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama wore one of his gowns to the Presidential Inauguration ball in 2009, collaborated with mass retailer Target for a limited edition collection of ladylike dresses, pretty bow-tied blouses, pleated skirts and cat print scarves with prices as low as $10.

When the collection went on sale in the United States a few weeks ago, it created a frenzy in some Target stores. Videos have since popped up on YouTube detailing the mayhem and how some shoppers grabbed entire racks for themselves. For the Toronto pop-up, shoppers were limited to three items a purchase.
