Janis Joplin Cause Of Death, Janis Joplin remains a music legend and influential icon decades after her death, but she wasn’t always popular with the authorities, getting herself arrested on November 15th, 1969 for disorderly conduct. Janis Joplin was arrested in Tampa, Florida, after a concert for disorderly conduct that involved reportedly bad-mouthing a policeman.

The charges against Janis Joplin were eventually dropped because a court ruled that bad-mouthing a policeman in Tampa, Florida could be called a justifiable exercise of free speech. At the time, Janis Joplin was touring with a new backup band, after splitting with Big Brother and the Holding Company, called the Kozmic Blues Band. Already a huge star, especially after her landmark performance at Woodstock, Janis Joplin was touring to support I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama!

The album was certified gold later that year and Janis Joplin was an international star. It was a more modest success than Cheap Thrills but Janis Joplin was still a voice for protest and music in America. After her arrest, Janis Joplin played at Madison Square Garden in December of 1969, the last show she played with the Kozmic Blues Band.

Janis Joplin went on to form The Fult Tilt Boogie Band, after performing one reunion show with Big Brother & The Holding Company. Janis Joplin and her new band joined the legendary Festival Express tour with The Band and The Grateful Dead in 1970. While recording Pearl in 1970, Janis Joplin was found dead at the Landmark Hotel in Hollywood on October 4th, 1970. The cause of death for Joplin has long been considered an overdose of heroin and whiskey.

When she died, Janis Joplin was only 27 and she left behind a legacy of music. Her last recording, Pearl, included one of the biggest hits of all time, ‘Me and Bobby McGee,’ and the Janis Joplin legend lives on.
