Jada Pinkett Smith, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake wasn’t exactly jumping when Jada Pinkett Smith asked for her help in protecting elephants earlier this week.

The mayor more or less says she had bigger fish to fry — that and the actress didn’t help her out when the city needed it.

But Friday Pinkett Smith’s aunt, who runs the Baltimore-based charity of the actress, said her niece has done quite a bit for the city — and she’s a surprised that the mayor doesn’t remember it.

“People listening to what [the mayor] said would think Jada Pinkett hasn’t done anything for Baltimore and that’s not true,” said Karen Evans, “I wanted to set the record straight.”

Evans also fired off a letter to City Hall, telling the mayor: “Your response to her letter was disturbing, irresponsible, inflammatory and inaccurate.”

Earlier this week, Pinkett Smith, working with the animal activist group PETA, sent Rawlings-Blake a letter, writing, she wrote, “as a mother and proud Baltimore native.”

Pinkett Smith wanted to make sure no elephants were jabbed with bullhooks during the upcoming performance of Ringling Bros. Circus’ at 1st Mariner Arena. The pointed tools are commonly used to coax the animals into performing at the show.

“Unlike me and other actors, elephants do not choose to perform,” Pinkett Smith wrote. “These endangered elephants will soon be in your jurisdiction. My friends at PETA and I join animal advocates across the state in asking for your leadership in holding Ringling accountable and requiring the circus to comply with Baltimore’s absolute prohibition of the use of devices such as bullhooks.”

Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith became an Internet sensation when a video of her singing while whipping around her hair went viral on YouTube.

The funky song “Whip My Hair” became so popular that Sesame Street created a parody called “I Love My Hair,” which celebrates African-American hair and encourages black children to embrace their beautiful locks

Now, Willow’s hair is all gone.

The 11-year-old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith shaved her head and then posted a photo of her bold new look on her WhoSay page last week.

Why did she chop off her locks? Was it an act of self-expression, a way to raise awareness about a cause, or an attention-getting ploy?

The budding pop star has yet to explain why. Maybe it was a style choice. After all, the look that Sinead O’Connor made popular in the 80s and 90s seems to be coming back. Cynthia Nixon went bald last week, although she has a good reason for ditching her fiery locks. She’s starring as a cancer patient on Broadway.

A shaved head is one thing for a 46-year-old woman. Is it an appropriate look for a tween girl?

The reactions in the Internet world are mixed. Over at Cafe Mom, blogger Jacqueline Burt shares: “Parents shouldn’t mess with a kid’s developing personal identity.”

A reader named Megan responds: “At 11 years old? I know you said parents ‘shouldn’t mess with kid’s developing personal identity’ but the reality is that young children look to their parents to help define their identity and want guidance in growing into who they are. There has to be a balance so that they are A) growing into who they are and B.) getting wise direction they need to become solid in who they are.”

“Having been raised by a single mother I am very clear on what the difficulties of being raised by single mothers are.

“It’s hard when you have a male component in the home to create balance and help in making decisions. Sometimes it’s good to be able to pass the ball only, like, ‘label, which is, you have this’ “.

However, Jada does not feel that there’s anything wrong with growing up in single parent and says that religion has always helped to focus.

He added to Britain’s OK! Magazine: “. As we grow, however, being in a one parent family was all I knew it was just me and my mom and have fun”

Jada said of religion: “You must have religion keeps you grounded and focused.

“I’m not really a Scientologist. People make assumptions about what I think, but my religion is love.”
