Iowa Road Conditions, Road conditions are pretty favorable in Des Moines this morning, according to Bill Stowe, public works director.

Stowe said people should use caution, especially throughout the evening as streets re-freeze.

At 7:15 a.m., Des Moines police dispatch radio indicated a number of fender-benders in the metro area.

Some flights, especially those to and from Chicago, are delayed or canceled at the Des Moines airport.

Kenny Podrazik, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said there are some lingering snow showers in parts of the state, but the storm continues to move east.

Most parts of the state saw at least a couple of inches of snow accumulation in the past 12 hours.

The heaviest snowfall was in western Iowa where parts of Cherokee and Buena Vista counties received nine inches, according to Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Parts of eastern Iowa received up to 7.5 inches of snow.

Gusty northwest winds will increase later this morning. Temperatures will remain low throughout the day, and there will be some light snow later today.

“Accumulation is going to be a dusting at most,” Podrazik said.

Officer Matt Barron of the Clive Police Department said at about 5:20 a.m. this morning, they got a call about an accident on the interstate near Hickman Road.

Barron said a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 80/35 was struck by a tractor trailer as it traveled over Hickman Road. A few minutes later, that vehicle was struck by another.
