National Finals Rodeo, The 53rd National Finals Rodeo is back in Las Vegas for the 27th year at the Thomas & Mack Center. The NFR is a championship event held annually by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. The event moved to Las Vegas in 1985.

Almost 120 cowboys and cowgirls will be competing in Las Vegas for $6 million dollars and a bunch of shiny gold buckles during the 10-day sold-out event that began last night.

The event draws thousands of fans each year to Las Vegas and pumps millions of dollars into the local economy.

Each cowboy and cowgirl is guaranteed to make about $14,000 minimum at the event.

Events include bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, bull riding, and barrel racing.

Last year’s big winner was Trevor Brazile, the eight-time and reigning Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association all-around champion.

Brazile made $507, 921 last year, including a record $211,509 in two events at the NFR.

He is close to the record of 51 go-round wins held by saddle bronc riding legend Billy Etbauer. Brazile has won 48.

The NFR begins at 6:45 p.m. each night and runs until 9 p.m. through Dec. 10. Tickets are sold out but people can still try to get tickets by going to the NFR Exchange.
