How eruption

Eruption began at 23:52 UTC on March 20, 2010 in Eyjafjallajökull volcanic system (also known as Volcano Eyjafjöll). A red cloud appeared on the volcano, which lit up the sky above the fissure. “The eruption was preceded by intense seismic activity and high rates of deformation in the weeks before the eruption, in association with magma recharge of the volcano.

Immediately before the eruption of the depth of seismicity had become shallow, but was not significantly greater than it had been in previous weeks. The deformation was occurring at a speed of up to one centimeter per day from March 4 continuous GPS sites installed within 12 km of the eruption site. IESUI reported.
