Honeybaked Ham

Honeybaked Ham, On the menu: Swiss Is It sandwich with ham, Swiss cheese and a honey-mustard dressing on a ciabatta roll. With a reputation as having The World’s Best Ham, the one and only honey-baked, spiral-cut beauty that people stand in line for their orders around Christmas and Easter, I am reminded that it is the same delicious porcine rump that one can expect to be served for lunch in a variety of succulent sandwiches at the retail locations for the rest of the year. I’m a creature of habit, but on those occasions that I break with my own conditioning, I am, once again pleased when I venture outside of “the box.”

While Christmas has past and Easter is not yet on the horizon, remembering that one doesn’t have to buy the whole ham to enjoy a wonderful ham sandwich is a sweet little nudge. There are more than 16 sandwiches that feature the famous, classic honey-baked ham, smoked turkey, roast beef and a vegetarian selection.

Consider the Classic HoneyBaked Ham Sandwich loaded with Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, savory sauce, a sweet, hickory honey mustard on a baker’s roll for $5.99. Or the Smoke Stacker which is a combination of boneless ham, bacon, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion and a smoked barbeque sauce on a ciabatta roll for $6.49. And while another selection sounds just divine-The Southwest Turkey Ole!, a creation of smoked turkey, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana pepper rings, chipotle mayo on a ciabatta roll for $6.49, I would be tempted to ask for a slice of the world’s best ham to add to the mix. Call me crazy.

The full service lunch menu also features three salads, featuring the ham, grilled chicken Caesar and a fresh garden salad. These range in price from $6.49 to $6.99.

Can’t get out for lunch during the workday? The HoneyBaked Ham Company will cater boxed lunches, and provide platters and buffets for 10 or more people and starting in price at $7.99.

Their desserts are delightfully tempting and at the time of my visit the featured one was the Chocolate Rum Cake. Other lavish desserts on the menu include Southern Pecan Pie ($8.99), Apple Caramel Walnut Pie ($8.99), Grandma’s Coffee Cake ($15.99), DeLuxe Carrot Cake ($18.99) and Cheesecake ($8.99).

During my visit, I selected the Swiss is it ($6.29) sandwich which was served hot with thick boneless ham and oozing Swiss cheese and a honey-mustard dressing on a ciabatta roll. It was a hearty sandwich, filling and ever so satisfying. The tender, flavorful ham was reminiscent of the anticipated sandwiches made the day after Christmas or Easter and enjoyed just as much.

Don’t forget that these popular ham products can be welcomed executive gifts any time of the year. Additionally, the website offers coupons for lunch specials and dollars off coupons for whole hams and turkey breasts.

The store closes at 6 p.m., so plan ahead if you would like a great take-home dinner that showcases the world’s best ham. The fun part is that you don’t have to wait until the holidays to enjoy it.
