MicoachMicoach:We saw the adidas miCoach system when it launched at CES earlier this year, and in its previous incarnation as part of Samsung miCoach. Adidas aside some space in this year’s expo Virgin London Marathon for it, so we thought we’d take a closer look, while a chase for review.

The system is compared with the Nike +, Polar and Suunto systems (Garmin and Timex strangely not check-in) in its marketing information, noting that provides real-time sound training, which is real unique feature here.

The most important other, monitoring heart rate, development of training plan, the post-training analysis and a “functioning of the community” are offered in other places, and heart rate monitors that ask you to accelerate or slow to hit a training heart rate have been present for many years – we dumped some links to reviews of other devices in the bottom of this story.

The adidas miCoach is a system with different components and in essence you need to monitor a heart rate chest strap, the miCoach stride sensor and Pacer, which is sold in a kit for £ 120.

The Pacer miCoach is the brain of the computer. This is the part that speaks to all other components, taking your stride rate from the foot sensor and heart rate belt. Records and processes the data and feeds the appropriate information based on your training program, through the headphones (s).

You get the option to go through its own MP3 player as well, which is where you can be a bit more complicated because you must connect your MP3 player with the miCoach Pacer through an additional cable. His music is still controlled by the MP3 player as usual. You at least get the option to use any headset with a 3.5mm jack you like, with the recent connection between adidas and Sennheiser has been an obvious choice, but also make Philips headphones specifically for the sport.

Micoach 1The Pacer miCoach connects to your PC and liaison with the miCoach website via the miCoach Manager (PC-free and download Mac). The website is free to register, so you can go now, go through the plans and make a decision on whether to meet your needs before you part with their money in cash. You could even just use the website of a training plan and nothing more, with a range of different types of programs, learning to run, race specific training fund, including the marathon.

Then sync your Pacer with your training program and you are, and what we can see, the programs have been well designed, offering lots of different principles and take account of good training.

Once running, the Pacer will discuss your progress, telling you to speed up or slow down suddenly one of the four areas of training. This means your training is at the right intensity, which is the most efficient method to achieve the best results, especially when training for a long distance race like the London Marathon.

The guys in the booth at the Virgin London Marathon Expo told us that the system is being launched across Europe now, and is available for those in the United Kingdom since the adidas website. We will bring you the complete low when they give us for review.

And if this were not enough, here is a video that explains it all again.
