Herman Cain Ginger White

Herman Cain Ginger White, Don’t worry, Newt. Herman Cain has your back. The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO — who dropped his own bid for the White House after allegations he had an extra-marital affair — backed the ex-House speaker for lashing out at a question on his personal life.

Newt Gingrich spoke up at Thursday night’s debate when the host asked him about claims by the politician’s second ex-wife that he wanted an open marriage.

“I loved Newt Gingrich’s response because that’s the same crap that they pulled on me,” Cain told Fox News on Friday morning.

He added, “And that’s what’s wrong with politics.

“That’s what’s turning the American people off. What does something that happened 20 years ago, relative to an ex-wife, have to do with Americans’ problems today? Nothing. So I loved when Newt Gingrich shoved it back in their face.”

Cain pulled the plug on his campaign on Dec. 3. following accusations of sexual misconduct and an extramarital, 13-year affair with Georgia businesswoman Ginger White.

During a November CNBC debate in November, the crowd booed network moderator Maria Bartiromo after she asked Cain to address the allegations, which he blasted as “character assassination.”

Fireworks exploded in South Carolina Thursday after CNN host John King began the GOP debate with a question about open marriage.

“To take an ex-wife and make it two days before the primary a significant question in a presidential campaign is as close to despicable as anything I can imagine,” Gingrich fumed to an applauding audience. He denied any wrongdoing.

King defended his question to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, saying it was a “damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation.”

“It might not be a great issue. It may not be an issue we like to talk about it. But is an issue in the debate. Some of the other candidates are talking about it. Voters are talking about it in the state. It was my judgment, my decision and mine alone … People at home either agree or disagree with that.”

How the open marriage allegations will play out during Saturday’s critical South Carolina primary is yet to be seen.

Herman Cain Harassment AllegationsHerman Cain Harassment Allegations, Larry Tuel, who was state campaign director for Herman Cain before he dropped out of the presidential race, this morning endorsed Newt Gingrich.

“I believe he is the best candidate for his knowledge and experience,” Tuel said in an email to The Des Moines Register.

Gingrich, a former U.S. House speaker, was at the top of the Register’s Iowa Poll in November but has been slipping, other polls show.

Tuel said: “He is intelligent, positive and has the best grasp of policy and the role of government as it relates to tax, spending and regulatory power. I particularly appreciate his national tax policy, welfare reform, and ideas for reducing and refocusing regulatory authority to solve our deep rooted economic problems.”

Cain suspended his campaign on Dec. 3 because of the “continued distraction” of sexual harassment allegations.
