Helena Bonham Carter, Helena Bonham Carter received her Cbe from the Queen today (February 22, 2012). The King’s Speech actress was awarded the honour for her services to drama and according to the Daily Mail, described the day as “very, very special.” Helena wore a tartan Vivienne Westwood outfit for the occasion, topped off with a miniature top hat. She attended the ceremony with her husband, the director Tim Burton.

Helena Bonham Carter made her name as an actress initially by starring in a number of Merchant Ivory films and became known as something of an ‘English Rose.’ In later years, she has starred in a number of her husband’s films, often alongside another of Burton’s favourite actors, Johnny Depp, such as Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Big Fish. Bonham-Carter has twice been nominated for an Oscar in her career, once last year for her role in The King’s Speech and in in 1998 for her role in The Wings of a Dove.

Helena Bonham CarterHelena Bonham Carter, The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles ® (BAFTA Los Angeles) will award the Academy Award ®-nominated BAFTA-winning actress Helena Bonham Carter, Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year 2011 BAFTA LA Britannia will be held on Wednesday, November 30 at the Beverly Hilton.

Britannia Awards are the highest award BAFTA Los Angeles’, a celebration of the achievements and businesses who have dedicated their careers or business missions to advance the arts.

“Helena Bonham Carter is an actress of great versatility, and range through films of all genres at once remarkable and courageous,” said Nigel Lythgoe, president of BAFTA Los Angeles. “She keeps her unswerving integrity and, through her choice of roles, continually challenges herself and her perception of her audience.”

Bonham Carter joins the previously announced John Lasseter, who will receive the award Britannia’s contribution to the world of filmed entertainment, and David Yates, who will be awarded the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Management.

Other awards presented at the annual meeting the night Britannia Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film Award and the Charlie Chaplin for Excellence in comedy.

Britannia Awards are presented annually at a gala dinner, where peers and colleagues and celebrate the achievements of distinguished honorees. Product of the continuing education of the gala support BAFTA Los Angeles, scholarship, community outreach and project file.

The first Award was presented to Albert Britannia R. “Cubby” Broccoli, producer pioneer James Bond films. Since the awards were created in 1989 Britannia Awards were given to Michael Caine Cruise, Tom, Robert De Niro, Clint Eastwood, Colin Firth, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Anthony Hopkins, the late Stanley Kubrick (in whose name the award is now given), George Lucas, Sean Penn, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Chris Nolan, Emily Blunt, Sean Penn, Helen Mirren, Kate Winslet and Denzel Washington.

Helena Bonham Carter, an Academy Award ®, two-time nominee, won her most recent Oscar ® nod for her performance in the 2010 award-winning drama of real life “The King’s Speech,” directed by Tom Hooper. For her portrayal of Elizabeth, wife of King George VI, also received a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award ® nominations and won BAFTA and British Independent Film. In addition, the stars of “The King’s Speech,” won a SAG Award ® for Best Film Cast.

Bonham Carter, recently was nominated for a Golden Globe and won an Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Mrs. Lovett in Tim Burton’s adaptation of screen 2009 of the Stephen Sondheim musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street “opposite Johnny Depp in the title role. In 2010, reunited with Burton and Depp for the fantasy adventure hit “Alice in Wonderland” and are now gathered in the thriller “Dark Shadows”, based on the television series of the cult classic and will go on sale in 2012.

Bonham Carter was awarded her first Oscar ® and Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG Award ® nominations for her work in the period 1997 romantic drama “The Wings of the Dove,” based on the novel by Henry James. His performance in that film also brought her Best Actress awards a number of critic’s organizations, including the Film Critics Los Angeles, Broadcast Film Critics, National Board of Review and the Film Critics Circle of London.

He had made her film debut in 1986 in the title role of the historical biopic Trevor Nunn “Lady Jane”. She had just wrapped production of the film when director James Ivory was offered the lead role in “Room with a View,” based on the novel by EM Forster. She went on to receive accolades in two film adaptations of Forster novels: Charles Sturridge “Where Angels Fear to tread” and James Ivory “Howards End”, for which he won her first BAFTA nomination.

Bonham Carter also earlier films include Franco Zeffirelli’s “Hamlet” with Mel Gibson, “Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein,” directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, Woody Allen’s “Mighty Aphrodite” and “Twelfth Night”, reuniting her with Trevor Nunn.

He became a star of David Fincher’s “Fight Club” with Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, Tim Burton directed the films “Big Fish”, “Planet of the Apes” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and film action of “Terminator Salvation,” directed by McG. In addition, she has participated in independent films like “Novocaine,” “The Heart of Me,” “Till human voices wake us up” and “Conversations with Other Women.” She also lent her voice to the animated films “Carnivale,” Tim Burton’s “Corpse Bride” in the title role, and Oscar ®-winning “Wallace & Gromit $ The Curse of the vegetables.”

Bonham Carter recently starred in “Toast,” directed by SJ Clarkson, where she played Mrs. Potter’s stepmother recognized food writer and chef Nigel Slater.

In her current movie, Bonham Carter plays fanatical Death Eater and Lord Voldemort devotee Bellatrix Lestrange. She starred in the 2007 hit “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” and also played Bellatrix in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 -.”

On the small screen, Bonham Carter won two Emmy Awards and Golden Globe Award nominations for her performances in the TV movie “Live from Baghdad” and the miniseries “Merlin” and a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal of Marina Oswald the miniseries “Fatal Deception: Mrs. Lee Harvey Oswald” also starred as Anne Boleyn in the British miniseries “Henry VIII” and as the mother of seven children, four of them autistic children in the BBC TV film “Magnificent 7 “. More recently, he starred in the BBC biopic “Enid,” playing the narrator renowned children Enid Blyton.
Bonham Carter credits include stage productions of “The Woman in White,” “The Chalk Garden”, “La casa de Bernarda Alba” and “Trelawny of the wells,” to name a few.

BAFTA Los Angeles
The British Academy of Film and programs of Television Arts’ outreach on behalf of the members of Los Angeles and other professionals working in the entertainment industry as well as the Los Angeles community at large. The British Academy offers exclusive access to screenings, Q & As with talent and filmmakers, conversations with leading UK-based film and television executives and the Heritage Archive, broadcast-quality interviews with leading members of British cinema and television. Educational outreach for students and the community of Los Angeles includes a program of after-school screening of urban youth in the Helen Keller Park Recreation Center and a recent alliance with the filmmakers FilmAid mentor young people. Additional programs include seminars in collaboration with local universities and festivals, scholarships for graduate programs and professional talent and recognition of students with awards at film festivals throughout the U.S.

More recently, the BAFTA Los Angeles presented the “British BAFTA to Watch” event attended by the chairman of BAFTA, His Royal Highness the Duke of Cambridge, and His Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge. The star-studded evening celebrating the incredible depth and scope of an emerging British talent in the games of film, television and video.

Maintaining a long tradition of recognizing the best talent in film and television, the British Academy offers a number of social networking events, including the Britannia Awards, the Orange British Academy Film Awards Luncheon, the annual garden party The British Comedy Festival & Awards Dinner and movie awards season and Television Tea Parties in January and September. Its members vote annually for the prestigious British Academy Film orange as well as for the category of International Awards Program of the British Academy Television. The Britannia Awards are held each November in Los Angeles, where it has honored the likes of Kirk Douglas, Sean Penn, Robert De Niro, Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Caine and Martin Scorsese with the Britannia Award for Excellence in film and television.
