Haiti Earthquake AnniversaryHaiti Earthquake Anniversary, Haitians in South Florida are preparing to mark the second anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake that crippled their Caribbean homeland.

The Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake killed a government-estimated 316,000 people. Thousands of survivors were evacuated to the U.S. for medical care.

In Miami, a partnership of 11 Haitian-American professional, community development and arts organizations will release Thursday a draft plan addressing the ongoing needs of earthquake survivors still living there.

The aid group International Rescue Committee will discuss current conditions in Haiti at a panel discussion at Florida International University.

A prayer vigil also is planned at a statue of Haitian patriot Toussaint Louverture in the Little Haiti neighborhood.
