Punxsutawney Phil emerged to see his shadow before the celebrants cold in Pennsylvania, and that means winter will last another six weeks.

German tradition holds that if a hibernating animal sees its shadow on Feb. 2 – the start of the Christmas holiday, Eid Candlemas – winter will last another six weeks. If you do not consider the shadow, legend says spring will come early.

In the inner circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club announces annual elephant expectations dawn on Gobbler on the handle, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The announcement came before Phil hundreds of spectators who are sitting down with temperatures in the teens.

Groundhog Club since 1887, says Phil predicted more winter weather through the vision of His Shadow nearly 100 times, but there are no records for nine years.
