Griffin O’Neal, Griffin O’Neal, the son of actor Ryan, was yesterday sentenced to 16 months in prison for his involvement in a drug fuelled car crash last year.

The 47-year-old brother of actress Tatum O’Neal pleaded guilty to two felony charges of driving under the influence and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The crash, which took place last August, left another driver injured.

Griffin, who was sentenced in San Diego County Superior Court had cocaine, marijuana, Xanax and amphetamines in his system when the accident occurred in August, according to court documents.

He also had a handgun and shotgun in his possession and was on probation at the time for a 2007 drunk driving conviction.

He had missed his sentencing hearing last month, due to being in rehab, according to his lawyer Heather Boxeth.

She said that Griffin had relapsed by drinking alcohol after five years of sobriety.

Griffin, is Ryan’s only son from his marriage to the late actress Joanna Cook Moore who also struggled with addiction.

The sentencing is another blow for actor Ryan, whose son Redmond has also struggled with addictions and run-ins with the law.

Redmond, who is O’Neal’s son with the late actress Farrah Fawcett, appeared in Los Angeles Superior Court last year after he was found to have violated his probation.

The 26-year-old admitted to Judge Keith Schwartz that he had used drugs while undergoing treatment in a rehabilitation centre in Culver City, California.

Redmond was immediately taken into custody after the hearing and transferred to the Pasadena Recovery Centre.

LA Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz cited California’s notorious prison overcrowding problem as the reason he sent Redmond to a recovery centre instead of jail.

Redmond, who was arrested on heroin possession charges in August of this year, was on probation for an earlier drug possession case.
