Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors, The Houston Rockets welcome the Golden State Warriors to town on Thursday night. Although they still cling to eighth spot in the Western Conference, the injury plagued Rockets only hold a half-game lead over nine placed Utah, thanks to eight losses in their last 12 outings.

With Kyle Lowry and Kevin Martin injured for the best part of two weeks now, Houston has struggled to string more than two consecutive wins together in the month of March. Meanwhile, the Warriors are dealing with their own injury problems as Stephen Curry remains sidelined with a bothersome ankle, which has seen Golden State drop four of five overall, although they are coming off a 101-92 win over the New Orleans Hornets on Thursday night.

Head to head, the Warriors are 4-10 ATS in the last 14 meetings and 0-6 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Houston, while the home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the favorite is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The Rockets are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, but just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games as a favourite. The Warriors on the other hand are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games, 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog of 5.0-10.5.

Strangely enough, both the Rockets and Warriors will be missing their starting backcourts tonight, well Ellis was traded a week ago today, but you get the picture. Even though the Warriors have lost four of five, they haven’t really played that badly as they lost to Boston and Minnesota by a combined six points, while also losing at Utah in overtime, a game they really should have won. Don’t be too concerned about them playing in a back to back as they are a perfect 7-0 playing on zero days rest. Houston should win this one at home, but the Warriors keep their impressive against the spread stats alive once more

Golden State Warriors, The Mark Jackson era kicked off Friday in Oakland with a cloud of uncertainty hovering over the Warriors.

Because management is clinging to salary cap space reserved for signing free agents, Golden State opened training camp with just nine available players. And with just as many question marks facing Jackson and his new staff.

How can they remake this team into a defensive juggernaut, introduce a new system, shape a rotation and build chemistry all before the Christmas Night season opener?

How can they convince Monta Ellis that he’s still a part of the team’s plans despite the fact he was dangled to the New Orleans Hornets in a bid to land Chris Paul?

How do they rebuild the confidence of Andris Biedrins?

How do they account for the fact a new big man such as the Los Angeles Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan plus other rotational players still might join the roster?

There remain just 15 days to sort all these matters out, but somehow the rookie coach seems undaunted.

“It’s a lot of things that you have to put in in a short period of time,” Jackson said. “At the same time, it will not be an excuse. We’re going to find a way to get it done.”

Ellis, talking to the media for the first time in months, said he was paying little attention to the team’s willingness to trade him.
