General Election 2011 ResultsGeneral Election 2011 Results, Long-ruling People Singapore People’s Action (PAP) has secured more than two thirds of the seats in the next parliament, state television reported after the closest election in the city-state since independence.

Most two-thirds allow the PAP to amend the constitution, granting broad powers to pursue its political agenda.

As of 2 am Sunday (14:00 EDT Saturday), PAP, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, had won 66 of the 87 seats, TV, said.

Only one post so far has gone to the opposition. Full results will be available in the coming hours. The opposition had contested 82 seats, most of history, with the PAP returned unopposed for a five-seat constituency. In 2006, the PAP won about 67 percent of the vote and 82 seats to 84, with just over half of the seats.

For the current election, the city-state was divided into 15 GRC four to six people, respectively, and 12 single-member constituencies.
