The State Senate defeated a bill on Wednesday that would legalize same-sex marriage, after an emotional debate that touched on civil rights, family and history…

The bill was defeated by a decisive margin of 38 to 24. The Democrats, who have a bare, one-seat majority, did not have enough votes to pass the bill without some Republican support, but not a single Republican senator voted for the measure.

Look. Everybody knows the GOP is the Dark Ages Party, so it may be disappointing, but it’s not really much of a surprise that they formed en masse Voltron-style to launch a defensive action against their constituents’ interests.

But you don’t get to 38 opposing votes in the N.Y. Senate with Republicans alone. Seven Democrats helped in voting down the bill. One of whom was Sen. “Slash” Monserrate, of Queens, who had previously been a vocal supporter of the bill.
