Garbage Pail Kids

Garbage Pail Kids, Garbage Pail Kids are among the more peculiar bits of ’80s pop culture detritus to have resurfaced. A collection of trading card/stickers depicting a litany of disgusting children suffering the most revolting deformities. And they’re coming soon to a theater near you! Again!

Former Disney head Michael Eisner bought the Kids’ parent company, Topps (the baseball card folks), a few years back, and now he’s developing a feature film based on them, reported Deadline.

Michael Vukadinovich, whose Black List script for the Pinocchio prequel “The Three Misfortunes of Geppetto” is being directed by Shawn Levy, will write the GPK film, with short-film impresario PES directing. Check out PES’ “Fresh Guacamole,” which we have to confess is pretty amazing:

Art Spiegelman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning creator of “Maus,” was the creative force behind GPK back in the mid-eighties, conceiving them as a goof on the then popular Cabbage Patch Kids dolls. Spiegelman had previously invented Wacky Packages, which for our money (literally) were way funnier and hold up far better (please don’t mistake that as us lobbying for a Wacky Packages movie).
