bayhEvan Bayh | USsPost.com:With $13 million in campaign funds at his disposal and tomorrow the deadline by which other Democratic candidates must file for the Indiana Senate race, Senator Evan Bayh — who was runner up to Joe Biden to be Obama’s vice presidential running mate — is bowing out of the 2010 U.S. Senate race.

Add to this that former Senator and US Ambassador to Germany Dan Coats, who has been under strong attack in the state for lobbying and residency issues, seemed to have been slipping as a serious candidate.

This is serious stuff. Bayh, who was a likely win in Indiana, now makes the state a toss-up, if not a takeover by the Republican Party.

This could mean that Democrats could lose Biden’s seat, Obama’s former seat — and possibly even Harry Reid’s seat in addition to Bayh’s.

While I opposed Bayh’s selection for the VP ticket and find his views on US foreign policy to often be recklessly hawkish, Bayh was on most issues a deliberative, thoughtful Senator in a very purple state. Those who want to hold a Senate majority that can help give some support to a reworked Obama policy game plan should not be pleased with his departure.

Christ-mas treeBoss Creations:Your latest weapon in the the war on Christmas, the CHRIST-mas tree from Boss Creations. From their website:

In recent years, our Christmas holiday has been made to become a generic holiday for all religions with many being forced to call it a “Holiday” season instead of Christmas season. We, as Christians, must take a stand and rescue our religious holiday. We at Boss Creations believe that one way to do this is to decorate with more Christian-themed holiday decorations including The CHRIST-mas Tree.

We have figured a way to enhance the tradition of decorating a tree for Jesus at Christmas by adding a cross that acts as a reminder of Him. By changing our tree to include a cross, we are making a statement that we want to keep our Christmas holiday! Our new tree and decorations ideas will not only help to enhance our celebration of the Christmas holiday but will help to enlighten those who may decorate for Christmas but may not be “Christians.”

Cross Christmas Tree

Cross Christmas Tree:Why celebrate Christmas? Christmas for most of us is a time of merry making, of gift giving, of joyous music, of expressions of love. In all of these we may forget the main reason for the celebrations which is the remembrance of God’s love, so great that He took the form of man to make it easier for us to love Him and because of love for Him to love our fellow man. Our faith is a faith of love and joy. As a creature we can easily understand the need to adore but we may find it hard to love an Almighty God, all-knowing, all- encompassing Creator. But since He is the God of love, He made it easier for us to love Him back by becoming a man like us, a Child in Bethlehem. This is the basic reason for all the celebrations. God’s loves us and in His mercy has given us the opportunity to love Him back. This justifies the joys of Christmas.

The coming of the king as a humble child in poverty in a manger also reminds us of His coming to save us from the weight of our own tendencies to evil, our shortcomings, our gloom, and weakness in the face of temptation. He saved us from evil, and made up for our transgressions, our sloth, our greed for power and possessions, our lust, our anger and desires for revenge, our selfishness and unconcern for others. Rejoice then, because He has made up for our transgressions. We have no more debts, no punishments to undergo since they have all been forgiven and paid for. The tiniest whimper or suffering of the Almighty God made man would have sufficed to pay for our transgressions although He went on to the Cross to give us an example and to warn us that we are still subject to the evil within us, and of the powers of evil that surround us.

Without the Child, Christmas merry making has no meaning. We rejoice because He taught us how to love and made it easier for us to love the Almighty. We rejoice because we have been empowered to control the evil within us and strengthened against the forces of evil that surround us. The evergreen tree of the Christmas tree is the symbol of the constancy of God’s love. It is ever green and ever constant. Santa Claus is the symbol of giving and self giving that Jesus taught and did for us. So are the three kings who came from the east to offer gifts of adoration.

Our insensitivity and forgetfulness may make us forget Christ in Christmas celebrations but there are those who deliberately try to remove Jesus from the celebrations. Greetings become “Happy Holidays.” Merry making is merely the urge to join the merry making of others or merry making for its own sake. The atheists join celebrations but not because God became man but just to join the merry making. The new age people do the same. They believe they can through their own effort and thinking, through philosophy and psychology, reach the Almighty without Jesus, the God/man. Then there are the pagans who join in the commercialization of Christmas because it is a source of profit.

We, therefore, must not be distracted by the merry making, the gift giving, the jolly music from the only reason for the joy, that God became man to save us from our own evil inclinations and the evils that surround us; that Jesus is our Savior who came to teach us how to love God; that because of our love of God we come to love our fellow man; that we rejoice because we have been saved. Love and rejoice. A Child has been born for our salvation.
