Head Of The Charles, The Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Massachusetts, won Saturday by Michael Sivigny, who won the singles crown for the second consecutive year and defended the 2002 world champion Marcel Hacker in the process.

Sivigny over the head of the Charles in 18 minutes and 46 seconds, 4.5 seconds faster than Hacker, according to U.S. Today. Sivigny, a native of nearby Londonderry, New Hampshire, came first in the field of 30 and ended the same way.

A couple of locals claimed the top spots in the women’s side, as Gevvie Stone, of Cambridge, captured the women’s individual title, finishing in 20:26. Mae Joyce Gray, also of Cambridge, was second, 30 seconds behind, according to the U.S. report Today.

Saturday was only the first day of the two-day event, an annual ritual in Boston that creates a great buzz around the city. The regatta attracts large crowds to the Boston area and is an annual event to look forward to many in the fall.

It is part of the charm of Boston, which has several large sporting traditions each year, including holidays Patriot Day, which include both the Boston Marathon and a game tomorrow, the Red Sox, and the Chief of the Race Carlos.
