Famous Boy Scouts, In its 60th year, the Hawkeye Area Council covers seven counties and more than 7,000 boy scouts. During winter months when outdoor activities are less attractive, many local Boy Scout troops hold their annual fundraisers. For many, it’s their only shot to get funding for the entire year.

Pancake breakfast fundraisers scatter across Eastern Iowa as Boy Scout troops serve up morning time favorites.

“This is the only fundraiser the troop has every year so what we get supports us for the entire year,” said Troop 42 Eagle Scout Michael Sjroy.

The smell of pancakes, sausage, eggs, and other treats filled the air at Saint Pius X Sunday morning for Troop 42?s annual fundraiser. Money for the troop’s 70 some scouts.

Song and food at Bowman Woods Elementary provided the perfect setting for Troop 560?s pancake breakfast. A troop of about 30 scouts serving the community that keeps them going.

“This is huge for us. It’s really important that we get community support,” said Troop 560 Scout Master Bruce Jacobs.

The dollars raised here mean boy scouts in the Hawkeye Area Council can continue the activities their famous for.

“We use the money to rent facilities when we do certain kinds of campout and to replace aging equipment like tents,” said Jacobs.

And it’s the long, overnight stays out of state, Eagle Scout Michael Sjroy remembers most.

“Two weeks down in New Mexico hiking in the mountains, but I’ve been on a lot of trips,” said Sjroy.

Boy Scouts provide the guidance and direction from adults to push these young boys to become men who are always prepared.

“This has just been an amazing experience for me. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without Boy Scouts,” said Sjroy.
