Kid Arrested Burping Class

Kid Arrested Burping Class, A kid’s life has basically been changed forever in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where in May, a 13 year-old boy was arrested for disrupting his P.E. class by belching. The officer, who apparently has no measurable sense of humor or irony, handcuffed the kid and sent him to juvenile detention without notifying his parents, who just filed a lawsuit against the school’s principle, the officer, and the teacher.

The testimony from the latter is that he “burped loudly.” If we are being honest, this kid probably was or is a rascal whose burping far exceeded necessary levels of volume. In fact, months prior to this incident he was “stripped down to his underwear while five adults watched as he was accused of selling pot to another student,” according to Fox News, the preferred outlet for all things burp-related.

Problem child or not, when a school resource officer thinks resorting to handcuffs makes any sense in this situation, that turns it into a community problem. Shannon Kennedy, civil rights attorney, is taking the case quite seriously, saying, “I am trying to get all the stake holders in a room to get people properly trained to prevent this from happening.”

No matter how insufferable the whippersnappers get, they are still whippersnappers, and as such should not be treated with the same level of seriousness as, say, a criminal. Now if a 50 year old man were burping nonstop in a public place, or spouting white supremacist propaganda, then you might arrest him, but only after you asked him to leave.

This upstart just wants to do hood rat stuff and burp. What on earth can stop him? Mouthcuffs? To quell his sense of bodily humor it is going to take engagement in other activities, not overbearing authoritarian tactics.

This is P.E. class – things get rowdy, your stomachs churn, the cafeteria served banana pudding. I say, let them eat cake and burp. And here’s a suggestion: save the handcuffs for people committing crimes.
