Facebook Outage, (CNN) – Facebook is down for many users for several hours Thursday; the second day in a row to access the site was blocked.

“We had technical difficulties that cause the site is not available for a number of users,” said a spokesman in an email. “The problem has been resolved and now everyone should have access to Facebook. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

The trouble began Thursday morning and was resolved at approximately 5:30 pm.

The spokesman said the issue was not related to Wednesday, when problems with a third party network provider to close the page down, or slowed down or worse, for several hours. She did not elaborate on the nature of the court on Thursday.

With over 500 million users, Facebook is the world’s largest social networking site.

In the Facebook Developer Blog, a post said the site was “experiencing latency problems, or a time delay, with its platform. However, some technology observers speculated that the delay in the platform developers were unlikely to have been the cause of the whole problem.

As always, cutting led to thousands of Facebook users of social networks Twitter and … talk about Facebook.

“Somebody has to set Facebook as soon as possible,” wrote the blogger at Gizmodo Rosa Golija Twitter. “I do not like having to tweet to show that” as “all the stories about it being down.”

Several sarcastic Twitter users lamented the fate of the plants and animals malnourished virtual Farmville, while others (presumably with a degree of self-awareness) commented on the impact of the interruption.

“OPB NEWS: Facebook is down,” said a message on the power of Oregon Public Broadcasting. “The rise in worker productivity. U.S. out of recession.”
