Facebook HitFacebook Hit by Hacker Fears:Concerned Facebook users were checking their accounts Tuesday over fears that a hacker has stolen access data for 1.5 million profiles for sale on the black market.

Researchers at security firm iDefense VeriSign Internet laboratories said they had found account information for the world’s most popular social networking site for sale on a Russian Web site.

The company claimed that a hacker named “kirllos’ was offering the system to access data from thousands of Facebook users at bargain prices, from accounts with 10 or fewer friends at $ 25.

Rick Howard, director of iDefense, said the case points to a boom in illegal trade of social networking accounts of Eastern Europe to the U.S.

But Facebook has poured scorn on the rumor, saying ‘kirllos’ was known by researchers to wild claims.

Barry Schnitt company spokesman said that Facebook had tried to buy the details of ‘kirllos “during his own research, but” the hacker was unable to produce anything for our buyers. ”

Criminals often steal data phishing techniques to trick users into giving away their passwords or software that records computer keystrokes.

The personal information including birth dates, addresses and phone numbers can be used to commit identity fraud.
