Elvis The Croc

Elvis The Croc, Elvis the saltwater crocodile didn’t take too kindly to staff when they tried to mow the lawn in his enclosure at the Australian Reptile Park and Wildlife Sanctuary in Somersby this morning.

Elvis, a five-metre croc recognised as the largest in New South Wales, charged keepers when they came in to mow the grass.

A very territorial animal, Elvis has often acted aggressively towards the keepers, but this is the first time he has been able to pull the mower from them. This time, obviously displeased with the mower’s intrusion, he dragged it into his enclosure’s lagoon.

The grass was being mown in preparation for a weather segment to be filmed Thursday for the Channel Nine Today Show.

Operations manager Tim Faulkner, of Wamberal, was the man elected to retrieve the mower from its underwater resting spot.

Mr Faulkner had to get keepers to distract Elvis with food while he dived into the lagoon.

“It was just crazy,” Mr Faulkner said.

“Normally we see him coming and get out of the way, but this time he just charged and the mower ended up in the bottom of the pool.

“It’s not out of the ordinary that he would charge us. It is out of the ordinary that he’d beat us, and get the mower.
