Dr Laura Quits, Dr. Laura, the more than fifteen years of stardom talk show, which coined the self-descripteor “America’s # 1 Talk Radio Host Women,” goes off the air at the end of the year. Last week, the host of the show he got in trouble for a segment with a black female caller, and threw n-word 11 times in the course of five minutes.

The talk show host he was on Larry King to explain his decision not to return to his contract until:

“I’m here to say that my contract is for my radio show later this year and have taken the decision not to make radio more. The reason is: I want my right to the First Amendment. I want to be able to tell which is in my mind and in my heart, which I think is useful and helpful without someone getting angry, some special interest group to decide this is a moment of silence a voice of dissent, and attack and attack members of sponsors.

“I’m kind of done with that. I’m not retiring. I’m not going to leave. I feel really energized, stronger and freer to say things that I think has to be said for people in this country.”

Last week, Dr. Laura was remorseful, but it has evidently decided to go out guns blazing, unrepentant to the end. He said:

“Black kids use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is (n-word), (n-word), (n-word). I do not understand. If someone without that says enough melanin, is a horrible thing. But when people say black, is affectionate. It is very confusing. ”

No, Dr. Laura, it’s not so confusing. And throughout the rest of the phone call, said many more revealed the depth of their biases go.

However, each time the foot disease in the mouth creeps up on public figures, the most important point is lost in the furor. This is time to sift through the archives ColorLines, because you know that one of us has been through this before. Kai Wright, in fact, back when a similar controversy with Don Imus radio talk offensive comments leveled at the Rutgers basketball team of University Women:

From the mid-1970s, conservative thinkers began advocating a new “colorblind” society, in which Jim Crow bald, institutional barriers to equality had been dropped and the race problem had been resolved irritating. Our political and cultural understanding of intolerance quickly released by the collective to the individual – racism, says Ramos, was reduced to “individual acts of meanness” carried out by a few ignorant idiots.

The distinction is a noun. If racism is personal, not structural, then racial inequalities are so good. If the oppression carried out individually, and then the release must, too.

resources of society such as affirmative action are therefore ill-conceived, it is argued, because they drag behaved perfectly white guys in the ugly process of dealing with inequality. If you’ve never called someone a “nappy headed ho,” Why do you have to participate in correcting the racial imbalance at the local university? Because fanaticism ends over means making clucking our tongues in a few dirty words.

So Dr. Laura, you can rest easy knowing that racism is much bigger than your nasty comments only. And yet, in good time. You’re not going to disappear for long, but the waves do not miss during your absence.

Dr Laura N Word, As conservative radio personality Dr. Laura repeatedly blurted out the N-word on Tuesday, igniting a national controversy, the woman on the other side of the phone was from Colorado Springs.

Rosemary Harris Lytle, president of the Colorado Springs NAACP, said the caller, who identified herself as Jade, hung up and called the civil rights agency.

She said she was offended and angry about the incident, but not a formal complaint.

“I got a call and a few e-mails, but we have a formal process, and she has not yet done,” Harris said Lytle. “I tried to get in touch with her.”

Jade asked Schlessinger, whose “Dr. Laura” advice show airs on KRDO (105.5 FM 1240 AM), the frequent use of the N-word from her white husband and other family white stem.

In answering her, Schlessinger the racial slur several times, and when she suggested that Jade was insensitive, she replied: “I’m not someone you call a (N word). Nice try, Jade. Really sucky try. You have a sense of humor. … Maybe you should not marry outside your race. ”

On Wednesday, Schlessinger offered an apology.

Harris Lytle said her organization, the use of racial slur that very seriously, both blacks and whites.

“Dr. Laura is not the excuse that everyone does it, so it’s OK for me to do it,” she said. “If a media person, as someone who sets himself up as a giver of advice for family and community relations relationship, she has to have higher standards for themselves than that. And an apology is not enough. “

Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n *****. ****, *****, n I do not understand. If someone without enough melanin to say, is a horrible thing. But when people say black, is affectionate. It is very confusing.

LISTEN (via MediaMatters):

After a pause, the caller said he was appalled by the use of the word Schlessinger.

“Ah, I guess I do not see or hear any HBO black comedy” he said. “My dear, the point I am trying to do … we have a black man as president and we have more complaints about racism than ever. I think that’s funny.”

Schlessinger and the caller then got into an exchange on the use of the word:

CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?
DR. LAURA: It depends on how you say. Black guys talking to each other seem to think is right.
CALLER: But you’re not black, not black, my husband is white.
DR. LAURA: Oh, I see, so that a word is limited to the race. I have it. You can not do much about it.
CALLER: I can not believe someone like you are spitting on the radio the word ***** No, and I hope everyone heard it.
DR. LAURA: Do not throw the n ***** word!
CALLER: You said “No *****, n *****, n *****” I hope everyone heard it.
DR. LAURA: Yes they did, and I’ll say it again: nnn *****, *****, ***** is what you hear on HBO.
[Crosstalk]
DR. LAURA: Why do not you let me finish a sentence? Do not take things out of context. I NAACP, leave them in their context.

Schlessinger said [she “was so upset that] could not finish the show.”

“I took off the air at the end of the hour,” he said. “I had to finish the hour, because 20 minutes of dead air does not work. I’m sorry. And it just will not happen again.”

Dr. Laura

Dr. Laura, (Mediaite)The biggest summer of racial tension since 1994 continues, this time with a strange rant, n-word laden with what has been generally perceived as a fairly innocuous source: Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Speaking to the black caller who asked for advice on handling racial tensions with her white husband, Dr. Laura uses the offending word eleven times and finally tells the caller that if she “has no meaning of humor, “should not” marry outside their race. ”

The caller explained that he was starting to grow “bitter” with her husband because he seemed comfortable with a neighbor continually making racist comments about her. When asked to give an example, the caller said Schlessinger who had used the n-word, to which she replied that he saw a problem with that. “Black Boys,” he said, “use it all the time. Turn on HBO, listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n * gger, n * gger, n * gger.” Then, of course, the conversation turned inevitably (and uncomfortably) to Barack Obama, Schlessinger continuing: “We have a black man as president and we have more complaints about racism than ever.”

After the caller expressed some discomfort with the tone of the comments Schlessinger, host rebuked him, telling him not to “NAACP I” [according to the dictionary, the proper term is Breitbart] and, finally, “if you are hypersensitive than on color, and have no sense of humor, do not marry outside their race. “Wow. Not that Dr. Laura has not gotten into trouble by insensitive comments before: In 2002, Schlessinger was found in hot water for calling homosexuality “a biological error.” That, however, was not addressed to a specific caller, nor the use of specific insults.

Dr. Laura‘s tirade came to prime time tonight thanks to CNN’s Rick Sanchez, who led his program from 20:00 to history, ahead of The O’Reilly Factor (leader, with a discussion of 14th Amendment) and Bill back (leader, with an interview with an American mechanic).
