Douglas Kennedy, Douglas Kennedy is hitting back at accusations that he broke the law by taking his newborn son, Bo, out of the maternity ward at Northern Westchester Hospital.  Kennedy, a Chappaqua resident and son of Robert Kennedy, issued a press statement Saturday afternoon.

“The nurse had no right to attempt to grab our child out of his father’s arms and I, Douglas was shocked and appalled when she did so,” he said in a joint statement with his wife, Molly, in describing the Jan. 7 incident.

Dr. Timothy Haydock, a physician at the hospital for nearly three decades and friend of Douglas Kennedy’s, also disputes the charges.

“I was a witness to the events of January 2012,” he said in a statement. “Then and now I felt that Douglas would not be putting his healthy child at risk or danger by taking him for a quick walk outside.”

Haydock also stated that the nurses originally consented with his assessment, and added that he was going to accompany Douglas Kennedy during that time.

He added: “I witnessed the incident and I can state unequivocally that the nurses were the only aggressors. To charge Mr. Kennedy with a crime is simply in comprehensible to me.”

Kennedy was arraigned on Thursday in connection with the charges, which were endangering the welfare of a child (a misdemeanor) and harrassment, a violation.

Stefani Friedman, a spokesman for the family, said that the next court date is April 5.
