Donald Trump Golf Resort

Donald Trump Golf Resort, Donald Trump will stamp his name on the place sooner or later.

He bought Doral Golf Resort & Spa last month for the Trumpian loose-change price of $150 million, and isn’t going to allow “800 acres right smack in the middle of Miami” – his words Thursday morning – to exist in such a prime location without advertising that he’s the owner.

C’mon, be real.

This is The Donald, after all.

So, it’s a reasonable assumption the joint someday will be called Trump’s Golf Resort & Spa at Doral, or something like it, and the TPC Blue Monster course might even become The Donald’s TPC Blue Monster, or something like it.

In the meantime, though, the WGC-Cadillac Championship got underway at Doral and Adam Scott and Jason Dufner stamped their names on the first-round lead with six-under-par 66s in breezy conditions.

The main contenders in last weekend’s riveting Honda Classic finale at PGA National – Rory McIlroy, who ascended to the world’s No. 1 ranking with a victory, and Tiger Woods, who made a valiant run at Honda with a closing 62 at PGA National – were all but absent Thursday.

McIlroy declared himself “flat” after a pedestrian 73 and Woods, after opening the day with an eagle, finished with a 72.

Scott didn’t play Honda and, in fact, is playing in only his third event of the season, with one of them being a first-round loss in the Accenture Match Play.

“It’s kind of the start of the year for me still,” said Scott, who lost a month to recovering from a tonsillectomy and then spent time relaxing with friends and family in his native Australia.

“If you starve a guy of playing a little bit, he’ll be desperate to compete,” said Scott, who fed himself with five birdies and an eagle against a lone bogey. “He’ll find a way to get in the mix, you know what I mean? I’m playing good. Just starve me a little bit, and I’ll find my way into contention.”
