Disney Policy Beards

Disney Policy Beards, In an update of their facial hair policy, Disney will now allow workers to sport well-groomed beards and goatees. This is an edition to their 2000 policy revision that allows mustaches. And until two years ago, female employees weren’t allowed to work in skirts that showed their bare legs.

No facial hair was allowed when Walt Disney opened Disneyland in the mid-1950s. Therefore, changes to the original dress code occur only after years of consideration. Disney also studies Fortune 500 companies to see what their dress codes are.

Many of the workers like the new policy, which will go into effect on February 3. There are some stipulations to the freedom, though: beards can’t be longer than ΒΌ of an inch, and “extreme styles are prohibited.”

A Disney cast member said to WESH Orlando, “I think that a little bit of individuality between the cast members is not a bad thing. I think that people can have facial hair and still be beautiful, clean-cut and wholesome.”

But Donna-Lynne Dalton, a Teamsters Local 385 union spokeswoman, says that not everyone will agree to the changes. “You’re having people going, ‘Yahoo! Cool!,’ and you’re going to have the traditional Disney workers – who have their own supply of pixie dust – that doubt Walt would approve,” she told Associated Press.
