Dancing With The Star

March 20, 2012 by · Comments Off on Dancing With The Star

Dancing With The Star, Dancing With the Stars judges may have given Monday’s dancers the best performance scores ever for a premiere, but fans gave the show its lowest Nielsen ratings ever for a debut episode.

The ratings drop is not really a surprise. The veteran reality show returned up against NBC’s fresher reality hit The Voice, and lacked buzz-worthy tabloid names this spring (Katherine Jenkins, William Levy, Melissa Gilbert, yawn… the secret to casting Dancing is having hot-button names like Bristol Palin, The Situation, Nancy Grace and Chaz Bono, celebrities that a large number of Americans have strong feelings about, positive or negative).

Dancing delivered 18.5 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in the adult demo, down 34 percent from last spring and off 13 percent from last fall. At least the two-hour Dancing helped boost Castle (16.3 million, 2.4) up 14 percent, but that wasn’t quite enough to win 10 p.m.

The big winner last night was The Voice (11.8 million, 4.5 — and, yes, as always, we’re going off the adult demo here because that’s what advertisers and networks, whether we like it or not, base their decisions on; obviously among viewers of a certain age, Dancing was more popular). The Voice has held up strong overall during its battle rounds so far and easily crushed Dancing, though last night’s episode slipped 13 percent. Smash (6.7 million, 2.3) was down 4 percent.

CBS tied ABC for second place, its comedy block rising slightly in the first hour, declining a bit in the second hour: HIMYM (8.2 million, 3.4), 2 Broke Girls (9.2 million, 3.4), Two and a Half Men (11.3 million, 3.8), and Mike & Molly (9.8 million, 3.2). Hawaii Five-0 (9.1 million, 2.5) was steady.

Dancing With The Stars

Dancing With The Stars, Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the final five contestants battled it out for four semi-final spots. So who went home? Let’s find out:

The verdict: No surprises tonight, Nancy’s grace period was over. The writing was on the wall for the former prosecutor after Judge Len Goodman told her on Monday, “It’s midnight. It’s time to go home.” Nancy accepted defeat far more graciously than she accepted the Amanda Knox verdict, giving most of the credit for her admirable run to first-time pro Tristan McManus and thanking her rabid fan base who stuck by her, wardrobe malfunction and all.

Most hackneyed segment: Former pro-football wide receiver Jerry Rice, ESPN’s Kenny Mayne, and Judge Len Goodman were conscripted into an ersatz Sportscenter called DanceCenter. As commentators on the show, they made some vaguely homophobic cracks about serviceman J.R. “Volcano Crotch” Martinez’s interest in musical theater and showed a mocked up reel of Ricki Lake outtakes edited to make it seem like she was making lewd jokes to Derek Hough. Real knee slappers there, guys.

Most anti-Irish moment: In a very juvenile attempt at levity, Rice, Mayne and Goodman asked pro Tristan McManus to say the word “third” over and over. Why? Because with his thick brogue it kinda sounds like he’s saying “turd.” Get it?

Least suspenseful moment: For some reason the producers thought they could build drama by pitting consistent frontrunner Ricki Lake against low scorer Nancy Grace and utilizing some falsely ominous long pauses.

Most eye-popping moment: In yet another of the seemingly endless DanceCenter installments, Jerry Rice, Kenny Mayne, and Len Goodman turned their not-quite gimlet eyes on Hope Solo. Having little show material to go from, they turned to one of Hope’s extracurricular activities: A nude photo shoot she did for ESPN The Magazine. If that wasn’t eyebrow-raising enough, they then had Len strip to recreate it. If it’s not in his contract, I’m putting it in mine: Len must be clothed at all times.

Best dance: Cirque du Soleil moved past their circus roots and squarely into the DWTS arena with a Michael Jackson-themed dance routine. The soundtrack moved from “Smooth Criminal” to “Billie Jean” as the group wowed with their trademark tumbling and twirling. Hope the DWTS troupe has more neon lightsabers and glitter pants, because they have some big shoes to fill.

Best musical performances: You can’t say this show doesn’t have something for everyone. Last week it was teen singing sensation Justin Bieber backed by Boyz II Men. Now it’s grandpa time, with crooner Andrea Bocelli singing “More” as the troupe twirled across the dance floor in old-timey top hats and tails. And then, just to provide the most extreme counterpoint, Flo-Rida performed his hit “Club Can’t Handle Me” backed by the troupe wearing spangled hot-pants. Like we said—something for everyone.

Dancing With The Stars Winner 2010

November 24, 2010 by · Comments Off on Dancing With The Stars Winner 2010

Dancing With The Stars Winner 2010, The top three on “Dancing With the Stars” came the end of this night with the pressure turned up – the audience votes already counted, so all that’s left the judges were influenced by the scores of two final dances.

The first challenge the contestants was to return to dance ballroom dancing his best season, and Kyle Massey and Lacey Schwimmer came first, the fulfillment of their tangos of fire – and more than topping his first go-round. Send these two on the tour – are so fun to watch. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba put it best: “. There are always fresh” was Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas Tango, too. Palin technique has improved since the last time, but seemed to lose some of the shine that was yesterday night.

“All of you are dancing the neatness and precision and cleanliness, but lacks a bit of an attack,” said the judge Len Goodman. For Jennifer Gray (who revealed that she had broken a record of the backbone of the night before) and Derek Hough, the choice of which dance to reconsider was simple: its sweeping, romantic Viennese Waltz had won some of its biggest compliments of the season. The sequel was a lap of honor – Gray is miles ahead of their peers in terms of ability, even wounded. “It was a blend of comfort and elegance,” said Goodman. “You are the complete package. The judges revealed their scores for the groups: 26 for Massey, 25-year-Palin and 30 Gray.

The couple dance ‘last season was a instant challenge – “. Raise your glass,” a cha-cha set in the Pink song performance was happy Scwhimmer Massey and brand-go-luckiness, and Massey seemed extra strong . Gray and Hough were a bit disappointing – this is not entirely his work. Palin seemed more cheerful than usual, and much more experience than the last time you went for a cha-cha (the judges seemed to think that was his best ball of the season). Massey, 28: Scores. Gray, 28. Palin, 27.

With that, Palin Comeback Kid was removed, calling the show a “life changing experience” on his way out – for anyone to have to throw your television this week. In the end, it was a cry gray crowned season champion 11 – proof that the baby still I have it.
