Edmonds School District, Given the recent acts of violence across the country, doing business as usual is taking a new direction in the conference rooms and meeting rooms.

Edmond Monday night’s Council of Education participants saw a new face in the crowd. Bervie Littles, agent Memorial High School school resources, attend monthly board meetings, school officials announced this week. School resource officers are police officers in uniform provided by the Edmond Police Department through an agreement with the school district and the city.

Randy Decker, executive director of human resources, said the move is proactive from the school district.

“There are times when we have big groups that we’d rather have someone in case of problems,” said Decker.

Decker said he wants to ensure that board meetings are safe.

“I think times change and this is a public meeting and people need to be safe,” said Decker. “I think he is looking at a number of incidents that took place throughout the country and school issues are in the news. ”

A police officer at council meetings was generated through discussions with the district administrative team, Decker said.

“We look at things that are clearly happening in society,” said Decker. “I just think when you’re dealing with public meetings that you want everyone involved to be safe.”

A policeman was in Edmond City Council meetings for a number of years.
