Corvette RecallCorvette Recall, General Motors has issued a recall of its 6006 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. A total of 5755 Corvette coupes are recalled in the U.S., and 217 are in Canada. The vehicles were being recalled models were manufactured between January 24, 2011 and September 1, 2011, and include both 2011 and 2012 model years.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently issued a statement saying that the hinges of the Corvettes’ back door does not meet federal requirements of weight capacity. It depends on the Corvette does not meet federal motor vehicle safety Number 206 Standard, which mandates standards of “door locks and door retention components.”

According to General Motors, the Chevrolet Corvette coupe has rear hatch hinges may fail in the event of an accident. Some of the hinges that support the rear door assembly has the potential to break, causing the rear door assembly to detach from the vehicle during a collision and lead to serious injury.

General Motors said they have discovered the cause of the problem. The automaker is defective hitch a roll of steel that was used in its manufacture.

Coupe Corvette owners will be notified of the withdrawal of the dealers who sell the same vehicles. Dealers are also responsible for the inspection of the Chevy Coupe, and will have to replace the hinges without charge. The withdrawal shall take effect on October 7.

To date, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to the hinges on the Corvette Coupe, and here there has been no customer complaints regarding faulty hatches. The 2011 model year is 4064 vehicles that are being affected by the recall, which includes the largest group, and there are 1691 model year 2012 vehicles, which are being removed. There is no word on what percentage of all affected vehicles.
