Cope Twins

Cope Twins, Amber and Angela Cope realized a lifelong dream when the twins both made their NASCAR debuts in the same race in 2010.

They realized another dream last year when Angela finished ahead of her uncle, 1990 Daytona 500 winner Derrike Cope, in a Nationwide Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Now the racers/models have realized another dream, perhaps, by being featured together in Maxim magazine.

The Cope twins are featured in the March issue under the headline “Twin Turbos.” They were photographed wearing black, bikini swimsuits and, in another spread, wearing cutoff blue jeans and denim overalls as they lean against their NASCAR stock car.

The twins began racing when they were nine years old and worked their way up through the go-kart and late model ranks. Both have raced in the ARCA Series and they became the first twins to make a NASCAR race when they qualified for the 2010 Camping World Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway, finishing 26th (Amber) and 30th (Angela).

They both raced in the Nationwide event at Iowa Speedway last year and Angela made three other Nationwide races.

“When we were nine, our dad got us a go-kart for Christmas and thought it would be something fun for us to do, but we took it much more seriously,” Angela said in an interview with Maxim. “We got good and became competitive, and soon we were racing day in and day out.”

They realized a dream last year when Angela raced against their uncle three times, finishing ahead of him (25th) at New Hampshire. Derrike Cope won two Cup races in 1990 and has made 621 starts in NASCAR’s top three series, including 409 Cup starts.

“It was always our dream to race against our Uncle Derrike,” Amber told Maxim. “And we beat him last year!”

The twins say they have made a few men cry over the years by beating them on the race track.

“People always underestimate us because they think we’re models or something, but that just makes the victory so much sweeter,” Amber said.
