Car Lands Sleeping Man, A CONNECTICUT man has been left with third-degree burns after a high-speed car chase ended in his bedroom.  While 34-year-old Michael Sweat lay pinned under the BMW X5, the driver fled the scene, The Hartford Courant reported.

It took firefighters over an hour to remove Mr Sweat from his rented New Haven home.

Mr Sweat, who was sleeping when the car barreled through his home, suffered second and third-degree burns on the lower part of his body but is expected to survive.

It is unclear how the driver evaded the police after the crash, and no description of the suspect was immediately available.

The chase began when the driver failed to stop for police in Hamden after committing traffic violations.

Police attempted to deflate the SUV’s tires with “stop sticks”, but the driver successfully swerved to avoid them.

The chase then continued into New Haven, where police maintained their pursuit through the campus of Southern Connecticut State University.

The car chase ended when the driver lost control and crashed into Mr Sweat’s home.

New Haven Police Officer David B Hartman called the work of firefighters to save the trapped Mr Sweat “heroic”.
