Columbia University Drug Bust

Columbia University Drug Bust, Five students: Chris Coles, David Harrison, Adam Klein, Jose Perez and Michael Wymbs were arrested yesterday in one of the largest drug seizures infiltration in the history of New York. With an interest in police work, I often wondered why more undercover work is not done on university campuses. You want to get to the bottom of the local drug trade where they think the students buy their stuff? Some cat on the corner of 116th and Lenox?

Most deals took place in the fraternity houses on campus, and the whole investigation was prompted by several anonymous calls to the hotline available to local Crime Stoppers. The five guys, who are all solid students, have sold more than 11,000 and goodies to undercover agents: cocaine, marijuana, ecstasy, LSD has decreased in candy and Adderall. With their arrest, authorities were able to gather enough evidence to bind three of their suppliers. It will be interesting to see if the eight arrests lead to something big. It is always interesting to see who is really running this stuff and from where.

Students have been placed on bail after all five pleaded not guilty at their arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court. The University has responded with a simple suggestion for students to consider their actions, not only for themselves but their entire college community.

My favorite quote came from Columbia University senior, Humphrey Huang: “I’m sure this kind of thing happens in most schools …” I’ll second feeling, and take a step further: What kind of stuff that happens in most colleges.
