Fighters loyal to the National Transitional Council (CNT) said they found him hiding in a hole, and shot him while trying to escape. But if Gaddafi’s death is confirmed, also confirm that fulfilled his promise to his followers that “going to die fighting and never flee their land.”
“We announce to the world that Gaddafi has died in the custody of the revolution,” said spokesman Abdel Hafez Ghoga NTC in the eastern city of Benghazi. “It’s a historic moment. It’s the end of tyranny and dictatorship. Gaddafi has fulfilled its destiny,” he said. He said the death of the fugitive former Libyan leader has been “confirmed by our commanders on the ground in Sirte, who was captured after being wounded in the battle of Sirte.” The colonel, who was ousted in August after 42 years in power, was fighting in Sirte, with their two sons, Mutassim and Saif al-Islam, according to reports. NTC officials said Mutassim also died in the battle on Thursday.

The man, who was hated in the country for alleged brutality and despised in the West for its moral and material support to anti-imperialist forces enjoyed great influence in the Arab world and in many parts of Africa, before his regime was effectively overthrown by armed rebels and financial support from the West.
He was also revered among many Muslims for their unwavering support to the Palestinians and great respect among the anti-American circles of America as one of the iconic figures of the last resistance to the capitalists.
Gaddafi also won the hearts of Pakistanis with their exemplary support to the country, especially after the fall of Dhaka. He was a personal friend of the great life of men, as Bhutto, Yasir Arafat, King Faisal, Mendel Nelson and President Ortega of Nicaragua.
As anti-Qaddafi Libyans in the streets of Tripoli and Sirte fired automatic weapons into the air and danced with joy, most world leaders welcomed Gaddafi’s disappearance as the end of despotism, tyranny, dictatorship and finally, the war in the North African country.
NTC fighters who had fought in the bloody conflict in seven months that toppled veteran leader, at a cost of more than 25,000 lives, erupted in jubilation at the news, which followed earlier reports that Gaddafi had been captured alive.
A photograph taken on a mobile phone Gaddafi appeared to be the 69-year-old fighters ousted by the NTC, in August, very bloody. In the blur, Gaddafi was seen with blood-soaked clothes and smeared blood on his face.
A video circulating among the fighters in Sirte NTC mobile phone footage showed what appeared to be the bloody corpse of Gaddafi.

Libyan television said Gaddafi had suffered gunshot wounds to the head and stomach.
Another NTC commander said one of Gaddafi’s sons, Mutassim, also died in Sirte. “We found him dead. We have at your body and that of (former Defence Minister) Abu Bakr Yunis Jabar in an ambulance to take them to Misrata,” Mohamed said Leith.
“Saif al-Islam is trying to escape in a small convoy Sirte. Our fighters are around them,” another officer said Abdel Majid Mlegta NTC Reuters.
The news of the death of Qaddafi came when the troops invaded the new regime last stronghold of his supporters in Sirte, ending a siege of two months. Fighters who move from the East and West won the ultimate strength of Number Two city suburb where his staunch followers had taken refuge.
“Sirte has been released, and the confirmation that Gaddafi is dead,” Libya has been completely released, a senior military official NTC, Haftarah Khalifa, told AFP in Tripoli. “Those who were struggling with Gaddafi have been killed or captured,” he added.

“We did it! We did it!” Shouted the soldiers of emotion, exchange of good wishes, hugs and handshakes against a backdrop of intense celebratory gunfire.
Gaddafi was wanted by the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity, but the leaders of Libya, had said he wanted captured alive so he could be tried in their country of origin.
NTC Mlegta official told Reuters that Gaddafi had been wounded in both legs in the morning when he tried to flee in the convoy that NATO planes attacked. “He was also beaten on the head,” he said. “There was a lot of shots against their group, and died.”
In Brussels, a NATO spokesman said two planes of the alliance on the morning of Thursday marked two pro-Gaddafi military vehicles near Sirte.
“At approximately 0830 hours local time (GMT +2) today, NATO aircraft attacked two pro-Gaddafi forces military vehicles that were part of a larger group of maneuver in the vicinity of Sirte,” said spokesman NATO Colonel Roland Lavoie said in a statement.
A NATO diplomat said the checks were carried out to verify the reports of the NTC that the convoy that was traveling Gaddafi was arrested by NATO airstrikes.
However, the U.S. government said he could not verify the reports that the deposed Libyan leader Gaddafi has been captured or killed.
“The State Department at this time can not confirm reports of the media on the capture or death of Muammar Gaddafi,” said State Department spokesman, Victoria Nuland, in a statement. Senior government officials and the Pentagon said they were working to verify the reports.
Doctors said at least three militants were killed and 30 NTC injured in Sirte on Thursday after 18 people dead and 180 wounded during the previous two days.
The drop marks a milestone Sirte. The new rulers of Libya, had said that only after the city had fallen were to declare the liberation of the country and begin the transition to an elected government.
In the end, forces loyal were limited to a small enclave of less than one square mile that had been completely cut by the besieging forces that controlled the NTC Promenade in the Mediterranean coastal city, and all sides to land.
Sirte, once had 100,000 inhabitants, almost all of whom have fled. Fierce battles with artillery and heavy gunfire in the last month have not a single building left intact while the looting has become commonplace as the NTC revenge fighters in the bastion of Gaddafi.
