2013 BCS Rankings

October 22, 2013 by · Comments Off on 2013 BCS Rankings

2013 BCS Rankings, 1. Alabama (.984): Since allowing 42 points in their win over Texas A&M, the Tide defense has allowed a total of 16 in their past five games.

2. Florida State (.935): While the win over Clemson helped vault Florida State to No. 2, their margin over Oregon is incredibly slim. So strange as it may feel, Seminoles must root for Florida to recover and give their team another shot at a high-profile late-season win.

3. Oregon (.932): While they’re No.2 in both major polls, the Ducks find themselves third in the rankings that truly matter. After disposing of Washington State the Ducks don’t have a gimme on the rest of their slate, which reads vs. UCLA, at Stanford, vs. Utah, at Arizona, vs. Oregon State. Combined record: 25-8, with five of those losses coming to another team in that group.

4. Ohio State (.855): Buckeyes in real danger of starting the season at No. 2 in the polls, going undefeated, and somehow still being left out of the national title picture.

5. Missouri (.822): The Tigers’ rankings the last four weeks in the AP poll: unranked, No. 25, No. 14, No. 5. The BCS’s computers (which rank them second on average) say it’s about time you puny hu-mans caught on.

6. Stanford (.741): With pretty poll position and a marquee game against Oregon on the docket, the Cardinal are easily the current one-loss team best-prepared to make a charge at the BCS title game should the ‘Noles and Buckeyes falter.

7. Miami (.720): ‘Canes happy the top-10 carnage let them waltz up the polls even after the narrowest of escapes at North Carolina.

8. Baylor (.712): With the Bears fourth in Jeff Sagarin’s margin-based “predictor” ratings and 18th in his margin-free formula for the BCS, no one is angrier that the BCS’s computers aren’t allowed to consider margin-of-victory.

9. Clemson (.625): To make the ACC Championship Game (and have any real shot at getting back in the national title race), Tigers need FSU to lose two of their last four ACC games, which include Miami … and 0-3 ACC N.C. State, 2-2 Wake Forest, and 1-2 Syracuse.

10. Texas Tech (.622): How much faith does Vegas have in the undefeated Red Raiders? They’ve opened as eight-point underdogs at struggling Oklahoma.

11. Auburn (.506): The Tigers have gone from 118th in total offense in 2012 to 19th in 2013. Gus Malzahn may know what he’s doing.

12. UCLA (.481): The Pac-12 sending the Bruins to play at Stanford and at Oregon in back-to-back weeks seems entirely fair. (Or not.)

13. LSU (.455): Les Miles wasn’t going to be thrilled with two losses at the end of this season regardless. Safe to say that two losses by Week 8 to teams with a combined six losses of their own was really, really not what he had in mind.

14. Virginia Tech (.441): How do you have the FBS’s 112th-ranked offense and still start 6-1 with your only loss to Alabama? By having the FBS’s 2nd-ranked defense.

15. Oklahoma (.420): In his last three outings, Blake Bell has averaged 4.9, 5.1, and 5.2 yards per-attempt, and the last of those came against Kansas.

16. Texas A&M (.367): Aggies’ losses are close shaves to an undefeated and one-loss team, but wins are only over Rice, Sam Houston St., SMU, Arkansas and Ole Miss, leaving them a solid No. 20 in the computers.

College Football Polls

College Football Polls, And with that, the college football regular season is over. It’s a sad day, in some ways, but exciting in others. Where once we thought a rematch in the BCS Championship was inevitable, now we’re not so sure. It all comes down to this week’s college football rankings, which will be released throughout the day on Sunday.

To be clear, the top-two probably won’t change in the human polls. But it doesn’t matter whether the rankings change; the number behind the rankings will be key on Sunday. Yes, LSU will be the unquestioned No. 1, but if Oklahoma is able to steal a few votes and close part of the gap to Alabama, things could get interesting when the BCS rankings are released.

How the Harris and Coaches Polls shake out, all the way down to single votes, will be crucial on Sunday when deciding whether Alabama or Oklahoma State will get a shot at LSU. And we’ll start to get a better idea of what could happen when the BCS rankings are released in the evening as the poll results are made public on Sunday morning.

Here’s a look at the games that mattered this week.

No. 1 LSU 42, No. 14 Georgia 10. At least there’s no debate about this one. The Honey Badger still does amazing things and LSU is still the easy No. 1 team in the country.

No. 3 Oklahoma State 44, No. 10 Oklahoma 10. The Cowboys did exactly what they needed to do on Saturday evening. A convincing win, perhaps one that would sway a couple voters, was the order of the day, and Oklahoma State did just that. Now everything gets a lot more interesting.

No. 20 Clemson 38, No. 5 Virginia Tech 10. Many wondered whether the Hokies were for real heading into the ACC Championship and Clemson hit the gas to leave Virginia Tech in the dust in the second half. The big loss could reverberate in the rankings on Sunday.

College Football Rankings, Another exciting week for college football is in the books and now we will look at how the polls and rankings shake out. The USA Today Coaches poll is first up on Sunday morning with the AP poll set to drop later in the day. We’ll update those rankings as they are released but it’s pretty obvious that LSU will stay on top and Oklahoma State will jump to the second spot thanks to Stanford losing to Oregon.

The big shake up this week at the top of the college football rankings comes with the decisive beating the Oregon Ducks put on the Stanford Cardinal on the road. The Cardinal blew their shot at a possible BCS Championship bid and now will likely not even get a chance to win the Pac-12 Conference title. The Ducks won in a 53-30 blowout and were rewarded with a jump in the polls to No. 4 while the Cardinal fall to No. 9. Oregon’s only loss came in Week 1 to LSU.

The other top undefeated team, Boise State, also fell but this time in the final seconds. The Broncos, thanks to a very favorable pass interference call, had a chance to beat TCU with a field goal but for the second-straight year couldn’t put the ball through the uprights when it mattered most. Boise State fell to No. 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll with the loss.

Those results leaves the LSU Tigers (1) and Oklahoma State Cowboys (2) as the only undefeated teams other than the surprising Houston Cougars who jumped to the ten spot. Both the Tigers and Cowboys took care of business against much lesser opponents and are headed for New Orleans BCS Championship Game meeting.

The Cowboys, however, will still have to go through rival Oklahoma on December 3 in the next huge college football game. Should the Cowboys fall, we could see a rematch between LSU and Oregon in a battle of offense vs. defense. That could be fun.

College Football

College FootballCollege Football, This week has another list of games very well. The Big 10 is the place to be with Nebraska visit Sparty Wisconisn and traveling to La Herradura. A great battle between the ACC and Clemson at Florida State capture a large number of viewers in the East. The Crimson Tide rolls into the swamp. And the Longhorns head to Ames to seek revenge for last year.

Betting throughout the week has moved most of the spreads of the opening numbers. Go to Maddux Sports college football betting site lines to see the opening numbers, as well as major betting houses are now a list of the games. Here is a brief sample of some of the biggest games.

Alabama (-4) in Florida – Alabama led the way as one of the 5-point favorite against Florida, but has been bet down to 4. It is clear that Alabama’s defense is a force to be reckoned with. But playing in the swamp is an easy task. Charlie Weis is one of the most important offensive minds in the country. If anyone can solve the riddle of the defense of Alabama, is Weis.

Texas A & M (-2 ½) at Arkansas – The Aggies, fresh off his crushing collapse in the home of Oklahoma State, opened as a 3 ½ point favorite against Arkansas. The game will be played at Cowboys Stadium. Money early in pigs has already thrown in the line up to 2 ½. Both teams are coming off losses to top 10 teams, but only one of them blew a 17-point halftime. It will be interesting to see if Mike Sherman can rally the troops, or if that loss will be a disaster for the Aggies.

Virginia Tech (-7 ½) vs. Clemson – Virginia Tech opened at -7 ½ against Clemson, although the books are published 7. The Tigers have been one of the big surprises of the country, surpassing both Auburn and Florida State in the rear of weeks ago. Clemson always seems to have talent, but rarely meets throughout the season. This year could be different. The Hokies are a perennial top 10 team. They have other hardware that really should try to the Tigers in their third straight game against a ranked opponent.

Wisconsin (-10) vs Nebraska – The best game of the day is a battle between Wisconsin and Nebraska 10. Badgers open 8-point favorites, but that was pushed up to 10 points earlier in the week and stabilized. As Ohio State learned last year, the Camp Randall Stadium is a tough place to play. Against the Huskers ‘7 needed to assemble a show inspired by Nebraska, if you hope to achieve victory.

Texas (-9) at Iowa State – The most exciting game of the Big 12 has to be of Texas at Iowa State. The Longhorns opened at -9, and after early betting has moved to 10 or 10 and a half, some of repurchase in the ISU has brought the line up anywhere between 8 ½ and 10. This is a great game for both programs, although for different reasons. Texas wants to make a “We’re back” statement, while the ISU is looking to make a “We are here” statement. Cyclones are the rotations have to clean and sanctions, otherwise, they’ll have off.

Ohio State (-3) against Michigan State – The Buckeyes and Spartans hook for the second most important game of the Big 10. Ohio State opened as 2 ½ point favorite, but the line is -3 in almost everywhere. Both teams had impressive wins last Saturday after being driven around the last week. Last season, Michigan State was able to avoid the Buckeyes during the time of the loss of a regular. No such luck this year.

Marina (-2 ½) vs. Air Force – The triple option is in full force when these two teams meet Saturday. Marina opened at -2 ½, but has been moved to 3 ½ points. Looking at the military academies battle is both a privilege and anything else. Both teams are above average, but it is refreshing to see the effort made by the youth who play soccer.

Bcs Standings

October 18, 2010 by · Comments Off on Bcs Standings

Bcs Standings, Oklahoma was a number one surprise to most, except the BCS guru who called yesterday. The Sooners are number one because of its strength of schedule. There are plenty of football to be played, but it could be a scenario similar to USC was number one in both polls in 2003, but was third in the standings. Boise is in point three in the BCS rankings, but the second in the human polls. There are a ton of football left, so things change.

Alabama team rankings are all over the place. One thing that I would, but most of them you may have is that the Mountain West is tied with the Big 10 to have two teams of 10, and only the SEC – to three – with more teams.

Star split

ESPN’s BCS was quite entertaining and Kirk Herbstreit was obviously impressive to make sense to say that just seeing one can say how good TCU, Boise, and Utah. “Statement” said Craig James, who hit you and you played “saying just get rid of non-BCS teams because they do not play the type of schedule than most BCS league game.

The team can not make more noise in the top 12 is Iowa plays Wisconsin, Michigan and Ohio State all at home. A 1.11 Iowa could make a case for the title game if they want to win.

A big game this week to help out all non-BCS teams is LSU vs Auburn fight and that will help and it hurt. The losing team stays behind TCU and Boise, and not the capture, which, however, the team wins, probably will move ahead of Boise and TCU.

A ton of football to play, and here are the rankings below.
