December 17, 2011 by · Comments Off on College Football Bowl Schedule

College Football Bowl Schedule, College football’s 2011-12 bowl season will last 24 days. Games featuring Santa Clarita Valley products will kick off immediately.

Beginning with the New Orleans Bowl at 6 p.m. today, the valley will be well-represented in this year’s bowl lineup. Three bowl-bound teams feature more than one local product, and another will be taking part in a Bowl Championship Series game for the second straight season.

Here’s a rundown of where and when you can watch teams featuring former SCV players.

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl — Today at 6 p.m. on ESPN

San Diego State will face Louisiana-Lafayette in this matchup, and the Aztecs count two SCV products among their numbers.

Canyon High graduate and offensive lineman Japheth Gordon saw snaps against Cal Poly in the season opener, while West Ranch High graduate and quarterback Jake Bernards has yet to throw a pass. Gordon is listed as the No. 2 left guard on the New Orleans Bowl depth chart, while Bernards is the No. 3 signal-caller.
Sheraton Hawaii Bowl — Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. on ESPN

Nevada will take on Southern Mississippi with former College of the Canyons tight end Randy Horton at the Wolfpack’s disposal.

Horton’s only appearance this season came in an Oct. 8 victory over UNLV.

Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman — Dec. 28 at 1:30 p.m. on ESPN

After being named first-team All-Mountain West during the regular season, Canyon High graduate A.J. Wallerstein will help lead Air Force against Toledo in the Military Bowl.

Wallerstein had a great regular season with the offensive line, earning nominations for Academic All-American honors and the Campbell Trophy, awarded to college football’s top student-athlete.

Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl — Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. on ESPN

Brigham Young University’s matchup against Tulsa will mark the final college game for Canyon High graduate J.J. DiLuigi, who leads the Cougars in rushing.

The redshirt senior has rushed for 546 yards on 106 carries and scored three touchdowns. He’s also caught 25 passes for 259 yards.

Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl — Dec. 31 at 12:30 p.m. on ESPN

Hart High graduate Patrick Larimore will lead the UCLA defense against Illinois in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.

The redshirt junior is UCLA’s leading tackler with 81 stops, and he also returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown against Oregon in the inaugural Pac-12 title game on Dec. 2. Thanks to his efforts, he was named the team’s Defensive MVP this past Monday.

Rose Bowl Game Presented By Vizio — Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. on ESPN

Saugus High graduate Ramsen Golpashin won’t be suiting up for the Oregon Ducks when they take on Wisconsin, but he’ll return to Southern California and roam the sidelines.

Golpashin earned a scholarship right before the season began and started against LSU in the season-opening Cowboys Classic, but a torn ACL during practice two weeks later ended his college career.

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl — Jan. 2 at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN

Last season, Stanford won the Orange Bowl with the help of Hart High graduate Delano Howell. Now, Howell and the Cardinal will try to take down Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl.
