CIA Plot & Bin LadenCIA Plot & Bin Laden, The CIA organized a false vaccination program in the city where they believe Osama bin Laden was hiding in an attempt to draw to obtain DNA from the family of the fugitive leader of al Qaeda, a Guardian investigation has found.

As part of intensive preparations for the attack that killed bin Laden in May, CIA hired a high-level Pakistani doctor to organize the campaign of vaccination in Abbottabad, including from the “project” in a poor part the city to make it look more authentic, according to Pakistani authorities and the U.S. and local residents.

The doctor, Shakil Afridi has been arrested by the Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) to cooperate with U.S. intelligence agents.

Relations between Washington and Islamabad, already severely strained by the operation of Bin Laden, have deteriorated considerably since then. The arrest of the doctor has exacerbated tensions. U.S. is understood to be concerned about the safety of the doctor, and is believed to have intervened on their behalf.

The vaccination plan was conceived after U.S. intelligence officials detected a messenger of al-Qaeda, known as Abu Ahmad al-Kuwait, which proved to be composed of Bin Laden Abbottabad last summer. The agency consists of satellite control and monitoring of a local safe house for the CIA in Abbottabad, but wanted confirmation that Bin Laden was there before you mount a risky operation in another country.

DNA from any of the sons of Bin Laden in the compound could be compared with a sample of his sister, who died in Boston in 2010, to provide evidence that the family was present.

What the officers approached Afridi, the health official in charge of Khyber, which is part of the tribal area that borders the Afghan border.

The doctor went to Abbottabad in March, saying it had obtained the funds to provide free vaccines against hepatitis B. Failure to manage health services Abbottabad, which paid large sums to workers in low-level health of local government who participated in the operation, without knowing about the connection with bin Laden. The health visitors in the area are among the few people who had access to Bin Laden’s compound in the past, the administration of polio drops to some children.

Afridi had posters for the vaccination program put around Abbottabad with a vaccine made by Amson, a manufacturer of medicine based on the outskirts of Islamabad.

In March, health workers administered the vaccine in a slum on the outskirts of Abbottabad called Sher Nawa. The hepatitis B vaccine is administered in three doses, the second one month after the first. But in April, instead of the second dose at Sher Nawa, the doctor again and moved to Abbottabad nurses Bilal Town, the neighborhood where he lived Bin Laden.

No one knows exactly how the doctor hoped to DNA vaccines, although nurses may have been trained to draw some blood on the needle after administration of the drug.

“The whole thing was totally irregular,” said a Pakistani official. “City Bilal is a well-to-surface. Why choose this place to give free vaccines? And what is the surgeon doing official work in Abbottabad Khyber?”

A nurse called Bakht, whose full name is Mukhtar Bibi, managed to gain entrance to the enclosure Bin Laden to administer vaccines. Several sources said the doctor, waiting outside, told her to take in a bag that was equipped with an electronic device. It is unclear what the device was, or if left behind. It is not known whether the CIA was able to obtain DNA from Bin Laden, although one source suggested that the operation was unsuccessful.

Mukhtar Bibi, who was unaware of the true purpose of the vaccination campaign, declined to comment on the program.

Pakistani intelligence became aware of the activities of medical research on the U.S. assault in which bin Laden was killed on the top floor of the house Abbottabad. Islamabad declined to comment officially Afridi’s arrest, but a senior official said: “Would not any country to stop people to work for a foreign intelligence service”

The doctor is one of several people suspected of helping the CIA have been detained by the ISI, but is believed to be the only one still in custody.

Pakistan is furious at having been kept in the dark about the raid, and the U.S. angry that the investigation focused on Pakistan seems to know how the CIA was able to follow the leader of al Qaeda Bin Laden on how he was able to live in Abbottabad for five years.

Over the weekend, relations were further hit when the U.S. announced it would cut and 800m (£ 500m) the value of military aid as punishment for Pakistan’s alleged lack of cooperation in the fight against t*rror*sm. William Daley, the head of the White House, went on U.S. television Sunday to say: “Obviously, there are still a lot of pain that the political system in Pakistan are feeling under the raid was to get Osama bin Laden, something the president was convinced that we have and no regrets have. ” The CIA declined to comment on the plot of vaccination.
