Casimir Pulaski Day, In observance of Casimir Pulaski Day, many city of Chicago and Cook County government offices and schools will be closed.

Casimir Pulaksi was a Polish-born soldier and politician who allegedly saved George Washington’s life during the American Revolutionary War. He became a general in the Continental Army, training hundreds of soldiers and cavalry, and was one of seven people to be awarded honorary U.S. citizenship during the revolution.

The public offices and agencies that will be closed in commemoration of Casimir Pulaski on Monday include:

Banks: Most banks and all financial markets will remain open.

Courts: All Cook County courts will be closed, except for Central Bond Court. All federal and state courts will be open.

Garbage Pick-up Service: There will be no garbage pick-up in the city of Chicago.

Government Agencies: All city of Chicago and Cook county offices will be closed. Federal and state agencies will remain open.

Libraries: All public libraries in Chicago will be closed. Libraries in the Chicago suburbs may be open.
