Saul Alvarez, Carlos Baldomir had not been knocked out in 16 years entering tonight’s fight with Saul Alvarez.

Not anymore.

Alvarez (34-0-1, 26 KO) was measured and care in the first five rounds against the 39-year-old Baldomir (45-13-6, 14 KO), but won all of them. In the sixth, however, the “Canelo”, who no doubt is becoming the best young sensation in boxing was presented. Alvarez landed 42 of 58 shots in the round, Baldomir abuse in the closing moments and knock him out flat with a vicious left hook. There were only two seconds left in the round.

Alvarez, just 20, had a huge reaction in his first fight in Los Angeles. This is a superstar in the making. Not perfect, but it is the perfect Mexican star who comes, perhaps.

Baldomir could retire now, and if configured to do so, you can not argue with that. He is old, who was out of form in this struggle, and it remains so hard it could be argued that too hard for her own good. Took a lot of hard shots from tonight Alvarez, and stood up to all but the final round assault. Baldomir was once a modern Cinderella Man, but was too slow and faded to maintain any kind of rhythm with a hungry young man almost half his age.

Our live coverage will continue with the next PPV main event, Shane Mosley and Sergio Mora meets.
