Campus Crusade For ChristCampus Crusade For Christ, Campus Crusade for Christ (CCC), one of the pillars of Christian ministry outreach at universities in the United States during the past 60 years, is changing its emblematic name because “a” crusade “of the word has negative connotations with Christian bloody conquests of 11 to 13 centuries, “the New York Times. In a press release, the organization said it was changing its name to simply “Cru” in an effort to “overcome the existing barriers and perceptions inherent in the original name.”

CCC’s late founder, Bill Bright, was aware of the perceived problems inherent in the original brand of the group, said his Vonette brilliant woman “is actually considered changing the name of 20 or 25 years ago.” He added that the new group name expected “to eliminate any barriers to people hearing about the most important person who ever lived – Jesus Christ.”

The group’s president, Steve Douglass, said that after six decades, it was time for a new brand. “Our management team and board are united in their belief that this is the right time to adopt a new name,” said Douglas, “and this name meets our goal of achieving greater effectiveness in ministry. ”

U.S. CCC vice president, Steve Sellers, said the name change “is really for the benefit of others. Ultimately, it is not our name, but every day how we live our mission.” Said the seller CNN In recent years the term crusade “was increasingly problematic … we would have more and more back [and] the name was hindering. We do our mission…” CCC Its website explains: “Our Surveys show that in the U.S., 20 percent of people willing to consider the gospel are less interested in talking to us after hearing the name. ”

While there were a total of 1,600 names of potential offered during the two years to find a new brand, “Cru” won, largely because it already had a career in the organization, which have been used since the mid- the 1990’s by thousands of students as members of an affectionate nickname for the ministry.

Since it’s founding in 1951 by the brilliant on the campus of the University of California-Los Angeles, Campus Crusade for Christ has become the first Christian evangelization ministry on college campuses around the world. Today the ministry has more than 25,000 full-time and part-time staff serving in 191 countries.

When it launched the group of bright, more or less the same time, the Rev. Billy Graham was making his Gospel “crusades” in cities across the country; it was common that the evangelists refer to its scope the use of medieval military term. (The word “crusade” comes from the Latin word crux, meaning “cross,” referring to the crosses emblazened in robes and badges of Christian warriors who defended the Holy Land – and ultimately, Christian Europe – against the Muslim invaders in the 11, 12 and 13 centuries.) “But the missionaries working worldwide now say that the term often causes offense, especially the Muslims,”the New York Times. After Franklin Graham took over leadership of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, which quickly dropped the term “crusade” of events in large stadiums that he held, referring to them instead as “holidays.”

While the CCC is largely still a ministry of the university, by deleting the word “school of his name can be part of brand strategy as well. The group noted that its reach now includes 29 different ministries, not many of them closely related to colleges or universities. For example, according to the Christian Post, the CCC “may be best known for the film” Jesus “- the most viewed and translated film of all time – and for publication ‘The Four Spiritual Laws “the most used tool among Christian evangelism evangelical Christians.

CNN said the comprehensive approach was shown CCC last year, when a staff member, “helped the Chilean miners trapped. Maureira Christian, head of the Chilean ministry of CCC, provided Spanish-language versions of the Bible MP3 the miners and helped them get the shirts I wore when they left the San Jose mine. ”

As for the elimination of “Christ” from its name, the CCC said the change does not imply less emphasis on the Christian gospel is the foundation of their mission. “Cru allows us to have conversations about Christ with people who may at first be off by a more overtly Christian name,” the organization said in a statement.

Douglass stressed that while the name has changed, the mission of the group that runs will be the same as it has been for the past 60 years, which is “to give every person on the planet a chance to say yes to Jesus “.

The organization said that the name of Cru, which will be officially launched in early 2012, only apply to the organization in the U.S., from branches in other parts of the world and use a name different from the CCC.
