Bukit Jalil StadiumBukit Jalil Stadium, The delay in replacing damaged deck Bukit Jalil National Stadium has become a danger to users, the Auditor General’s report said.

The report also said the warranty period had expired in 2008, and had been in a deplorable state since.

The vinyl roof material with tears, and screws and wires were rusty holds it together.

“There is a danger of collapse and needs immediate repair,” said the report.

Comments from the Treasury Department said the delay was due to financial constraints.

Stadium Merdeka Corporation (MSC) sent six applications for the Youth and Sports Ministry between 2006 and last year, and was finally approved RM30mil.

MSC function is to maintain, develop, promote and manage all the national sports complex.

The allocation was approved at the ninth Malaysia Plan in December last year and subsequently the project was submitted to the Department of Public Works (MOP) in April due to lack of experience.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for the MSC, said the bid to replace the roof would open next month and repair work is scheduled to begin in January next year.

She said the RM30mil, RM18mil was the replacement of the roof of the stadium and the rest went to other upgrading works.

“Work will begin in January and is expected to take a year.

“Therefore, during this period, the stadium will be closed,” he said.
