Buddy Holly - It Doesn't Matter AnymoreBuddy Holly – It Doesn’t Matter Anymore, Paul Anka has never disappointed his fans, as once again Anka rang in the New Year with 5,000 lucky individuals at the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood.

Tickets were expensive and expectations were high, but as Anka started the night off with a bang. Entering the venue from the back, he stopped along the way to shake hands, receive kisses and asked the audience to sign with him the unforgettable lyrics we all know and love.

Showman, personable, incredible song writer, amazing vocals, the list could go to describe this icon who has connected with the world for over 60 years. That’s not a misprint, I said 60 years. Anka recorded his first single “I Confess” at age 14 in 1957 followed shortly there after by “Diana”. The list of hits are numerous but what amazed me to learn last night is how many hit songs he wrote for other people, like “She’s a Lady” for Tom Jones, the English lyrics to “My Way” for Frank Sinatra, “Jubilation” for Barbara Streisand, and the sad stories and memories of his collaboration with Buddy Holly and Michael Jackson.

When you see Anka in concert he shares with you his personal life. He told us how he wrote “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” for Holly while touring with Chuck Berry, The Platters and Fats Domino. He also shared how it was to be Holly’s last recording before his tragic death. What he didn’t tell us is how he gave Holly’s widow all the royalties from the hit single.
