Then a second announcement: Please ignore the first announcement.

The plane was fine, cruising at an uneventful 35,000 feet halfway to Heathrow. The announcement was activated by accident.

British Airways apologized for the error this week after Saturday’s Miami to London flight, according to ABC News.

The 275 passengers flying over the North Sea prepared for the worst.

Michelle Lord, 32, told The Telegraph: “People were terrified, we all thought we were going to die. They said the pilot hit the wrong button because they were so close together.”

Said passenger Duncan Farquharson, 58: “We looked at each other and figured we were both about to die. Families with children were distraught and people were in tears. It was very distressing.”

Airline officials handed out letters of apology when the plane landed safely.

“The cabin crew canceled the announcement immediately and sought to reassure customers that the flight was operating normally. We apologize to customers for causing them undue concern,” the company said in a statement.
